Aware of Hondabond as extra sealer on gaskets!
« on: March 10, 2014, 01:21:00 PM »
I have just had some extra hours of work due to the extra sealer I applied under the head cover gasket. WOW! It glued the gasket as a 2k glue!  I had to scratch with razor blade and use paint removal gel to remove the stuff. 2 times >:(
I saw it and took the fight now when head is off even if the gasket should work, not damaged.

Next time I'll use a thin layer of non hardener sealer like Hylomar (or my old good Hermetite Golden from the 80's still OK in the tube) to help gaskets to sit correct and seal under the cover. Same with cam chains adj unit that was stuck due to Hondabond. The other engine covers on the sides will be the future fun when gasket need to be replaced.

I have always heard how good Hondabond really is. I doubt I'll like the job taking the cases apart next time...

FWIW, I use Hondabond on one side (valve cover side) of the gasket.  Glues it like mad and I can still take it off.

Just use the original GASKACINCH it peels off like rubber cement.

One coat on each side then let dry and assemble.

+1 on the Gasgacinch. It's the bomb on the gaskets like Lucky describes as well as between the cases. I have used Hondabond between the cases but if it's a motor that's likely to be opened and closed multiple times as some race motors, I prefer the Gasgacinch. It seals very well and is easy to remove. Been using it on Honda motors since 1964.

I used it on the head side.... :( Much easier on valve cover side when time comes for removal of gasket and sealer. Same with the other covers....Glue/sealer on cover side for easier cleaning.

I've used sealer on one side and chap stick on the other side when I wanted to remove them later. An old racers trick. From an old racer.

I installed all my gaskets dry ... no issues. The valve cover gasket really shouldn't need a sealer?
