man you guys got great cars in the 70s with some great engines!the 351W was rare here, only came in imports or our local falcon XW and early XY  models,it was the cleveland after that,we had clevos in 302 and 351 though.
I've always wondered why Ford eventually favored the Windsor over the Cleveland because I assumed the Cleveland had the superior cyl head. Maybe the Ford fans here can shed some info on that.

The Boss engines are the answer there Bailgang. The Windsor block was lighter and the bottom end liked to rev more than the Cleveland, its down fall was tiny ports in the heads and not much you could do about it due to the thinner castings, thats why the boss engines were created,  Windsor bottom end with Cleveland heads, something that breathed and revved..  The newer Windsor engines have totally different heads...And blocks for that matter... ;)

Mine was a 1956 Plymouth Savoy,  2 tone green (mint green over emerald green), Now, I only gave $49 for it, in 1966, cause it would only TRY to start. Timing chain was stretched. was a 4dr too. That was another reason it was so cheap too, probably. Traded that a year later, for a 1958 Chevy Impala (red and white) 2dr hdtp. 348/powerglide.  Wish I had pictures, but sadly, I don't. Moved up BIG TIME, with the next one being a 1966 Charger 383/4sp/Sure Grip (posi)

I had a friend in Wyoming that had a Ford Ranch wagon that looked like that. It had a 460 out of a Merc and a C6. It had a nice paint job and decent wheels but needed interior done throughout. He got into a pinch for money and sold it for $5000 cash.

i like the early windsor engines,be sure the rocker studs dont pull out of the head though, have them pinned, ive rebuilt a couple, this one is a second over rebore and a sig erson tq20 cam with edelbrock dual plane, its not mine but a mates, built for towing dirt bikes, but still so quick of the line, this ran 3:00 gears, this started out as a worn out 302W fairmont,we had the most trouble finding the pulleys for the 351 windsor!umm?it hauled ass even towing three dirt bikes, early 90s?

Fairmonts are very light. Should scoot along pretty good with V8 power. My ex father in law had a Fairmont sedan in Wyoming around 10 years ago that had a straight 6 in it. Car was a slug but got decent gas milage.

903 cc/45hk, with one person in and no headwind topspeed was 110 km-70-75 miles
fun little car on smaller roads.

Hi South harbor Honda,
When running only cycles how do you carry your bags ?
I have touring bicycles w/ front and rear panniers and I'm looking to design a carry system for large military type "mermite cans" and mount them onto my CB350.I also use a little Honda NC50 "Express" moped frequently and I carry a hikers backpack w/ that. Any ideas ?

dave, Did you say "clean" clothes ?  :o  ::) I hope your near neighbor visited a dragstrip at least once in his life..,it might have at least engendered good thoughts when he wore his shirt..,or climbed into bed.
That was a Nice smoke show w/ only a poor tire as a casualty  :).

That's why you need to buy old cars while they are still around. My '72 MGB-GT is manual everthing. It has points and twin SU carb's, and the rear brakes need to be manually adjusted periodically. Plenty of weekend tinkering opportunities for me.

And there are still plenty of 70's cars and trucks out there without any computer controls on them. Of course the price you pay for that big carburated American V8 is single digit fuel mileage.

There ought to be another thread about what car did you own that you wish you still had. An older brother of mine used to have a mid engined V-8 Yenko Corvair back in the early 70's even had it's very own Yenko VIN #, it was just an old car back then so he didn't think nothing of it when he sold it back then. He kicks himself every time he thinks of it.
