1965 Corvair 4-door, with the 2-speed Power Glide. Bought it for $75 in '71 from a surfer dude. "I think it threw a rod". Turned out to be a leak in the fuel line between the gas tank and the fuel pump; the pump was sucking air. It was the most gutless car I've ever owned, and the most gutless Corvair I've ever driven. I sold it to my older brother, after a year or two, for $75 plus his well-worn '62 'vair, which I promptly flipped for $75 to a guy who wanted to build a dune-buggy. A couple of years later, my brother sold it to my buddy for $150, and he drove it for a year or so, then sold it for $150.  ;D ;D ;D

What was your first car? Do you mean  stolen, driven, or owned?  I just want to understand the question before answering without an attorney present.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Back in 68 -  dark blue 63 Chevy Impala Super Sport 327-300 Borg Warner Aluminum T10 4 speed with chrome wheels and factory tach on the dash. I added a 4 track tape player to it.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a 4 track and a 8 track?

The 4 track, besides only having 2 stereo tracks, had an opening in the underside of the cartridge to allow the pinch roller to swing up into place. The 8 track had four stereo tracks, so the tape cycled four times for each full play instead of twice, and the pinch roller was built into the cartridge. Bill Lear, of Lear Jet fame, was said to be the innovator of the 8 track improvement. (Just going from memory) ;D

1955 Ford. 100K miles on the clutch, straight six and three speed on the column. This one is restored, mine was always on life support. It is the same two tone colors.
I have had nicer and better cars, but I loved her dearly. You never forget your first.

Same here, same car-same color.  Paid a whopping 15 for it from my Uncle,  drove it home and it promptly blew up.  Parted it out, junked the body and then got my Grannie's 55 Chevy for free...Larry

My first car was a truck...

95 F350 4x4 Dually
4 door longbed
7.3L turbo diesel

Took a 40 acre field to turn it and it didn't do so good at the grocery store but it would pull anything around. Had a banks dual turbo conversion done and added a propane feed. Ran it up to 860k miles before it finally blew up.
You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

1st. car was a 56 Ford Victoria hardtop.  Same colors as Bob's.  It was given to me at age 15 by my aunt in 1965.  She worked at Scott Paper in Detroit across from Zug Island.  Anyone from SE Michigan knows how bad the air quality and pollution was there.  The finish on the car was so pitted you could sand wood on it.  I fixed it up to drive it, but my dad made me sell it before I got my license.  My first car to drive at 16 was a 53 Ford Customline.

1949 Cadillac 62 Series Sedanette.  I have no idea why my parents let me buy this from my grandpa.  8 miles to gallon in town.

Drum brakes all around.  You had better plan your stops ahead of time, and when wet - it was worse.

My most memorable experience in this car - approaching a light - went yellow - and remember the brakes thing - romped on it hard.  When I lifted, the engine died.  Would turn over a little - then seemingly "lock up".  Had to be towed home.  Later found out that the distributor mechanical advance locked full advance.

The first one I ever bought for myself was a '71 Toyota Celica GT coupe. Bought it right after I graduated HS in '83, paid $100 for it and drove it for almost 2 years until the left front subframe cracked because (unknown to me) it was slightly bent from an accident (car drove great, zero alignment issues) and it had rusted through. I went over some railroad tracks with myself and 3 other fairly large guys in it and it cracked and shifted, breaking the exaust pipe where it attached to the manifold.

To this day it remains in the top 5 of the many (26 or so) cars that I have owned or served as my personal daily driver.

It looked a lot like this, but white with black vinyl and interior.

In '79 or '80, when I was 14-15 my dad managed to talk the neighbor behind us into selling him his '65 Impala 396 convertible (It didn't have SS badges on it, but I have always assumed it was one). Metallic blue with a black top and interior It was in very good shape, it just needed a good cleaning, tires, and to get running again.

I had been lusting after this car for years. Walking past it on my paper route. I stopped pretty much every day for 3 years to look at it in the driveway. I couldn't believe it the day it showed up in mine. I would open the hood and just gaze at that giant V8 and it's Holley 750 double pumper. I can still see it in my head.

Dad somehow managed to chip a tooth on the flywheel and decided to sell it to the mechanic down the street whose daughter was friends with my younger sister. I was SO pissed. I never saw it again or even got to hear it run. It sits at the top of my 'cars that got away' list.

I know my sister is FB friends with the girl still. I should ask her if she knows what her dad did with the car.

A 1954 Hillman Minx top speed about 55mph on a good day but the stump puller 1st gear meant that nothing would out drag you from the stop sign for at least 5 feet leather seats and wooden dash.

I wish I had one of those now.

My first was a 69 Austin Mini 998cc. I stuck a 1300GT engine in it. I think everyone I knew had a Mini at some time.

Me too Lester. I ran across one last year but didn't have the cash. I plan to sell my MG in a couple months and I will probably look around to see if I get lucky.

A 1955 Ford in a weird Salmon color.  An art deco throwback.  It was a donation from my mother.  I couldn't drive it much due to insurance costing more than we could afford.  So I took it apart, then couldn't afford the parts it needed to put it back together.  Sold it as is.  Turned out to be a training exercise.

1st car in my name was a 58 olds 98.  Big 394 V8 auto, would put down 277 ft of rubber (this was important in 1965!)  Darn near bullet proof, but not rust proof in Illinois.

Mine was a twin to this one. Contrary to belief, Pontiacs really DID make power.
Being from Missouri, the "show me" state, there were times when it was necessary. ;)
A bit of trivia: why do half or more of the cars at the track have tail light/brake lites out? A guy could make out like a bandit selling bulbs all night long.  end hijack :-X

Ah yes, the big Poncho's are my favorites. My first introduction to one was after the frame frame failed on my Boss 302 (severe rust) and I bought a 70 GP from a friends brother and I was hooked on Pontiacs since. In the past I've owned 2 70 GP's, a 78 T/A and a 65 GT0. The GP's were  my favorites though.

I drove that 55 for a year. When the old man gave it to me he said,  when the car runs you drive, when it doesn;t you walk. The tools are in the Garage.

A guy dispbeyed the Cop directing traffic in front of the School told me to go and VW Beetle to stop. The VW hit me right in the front fender and hit my wheel.

His Insurance Co paid me $100, offered me $50 but the old man told him my shoulder hurt from hitting the wheel. I bought a 1959 Chevy with a straight six. Ran that for a couple of years.  I saved up and bought a 1967 Mustang 2+2 fastback with the 289 Shelby motor.
