Leaky oil pressure switch?
« on: March 09, 2014, 08:53:07 PM »
Just finished my top end rebuild and still had a small but persistent leak coming out of the rear of the engine. Better than the head but was still driving me insane. Originally thought it was the transmission gasket because the oil was dripping off the bottom right corner of it. Replaced that and the leak still persisted. I finally realized today that I'm pretty sure it's actually coming from a what looks to be leaky oil pressure switch (attached photo). I'm having a hard time finding too much information about fixing this leak but from what I understand it DOES leak. There's no oil coming anywhere above if so this definitely seems to be where it's coming from. My question is more so what parts I need to get to fix it? Do need the whole sha-bang or just something like this unit?

Thank you so much!

By the way, my name is Tim, I don't think I've formally introduced myself. I've been following for the past year (searching and observing) and am now trying to become more active. I have a not so stock, but not so modified cb750, living in brooklyn and it's main purpose is to get my fiancé and myself the hell out of the city on the weekends to camp up in the Catskills every weekend. I'll try and find a picture of her on the road.

Tim,
I would buy the genuine Honda switch. The Honda list price is lower than what you show, and the part is still available. My online Honda dealership sells it for $ 24.75
http://www.discounthondaparts.com/fiche_select.asp?mfg=Honda&partnumber=35500-300-000&bigSubmit=Search
And unlike some of the other online-dealership clowns that are so popular here, these people actually serve soldiers stationed overseas. One more reason to buy from them. Or support your local Honda dealer and get it there for $ 30.55.  After all, they will be the ones that provide the best service because you can  talk to them in person if you have a question, and they provide jobs in town.

Now would be a good time to mount a gauge on the bars run the line where it won't melt. Either way use Teflon tape don't put it over the last two threads and wrap it in the correct direction. Dave is right it is a on off switch. But I don't know if they all go on & off at the same reading or how important that is. Can you say oil pressure switch thread ::) ::)

Thanks wobbly, man, I wish that discount honda dealership was just slightly closer to me, it's like 1.5 hours away. Guess it's a good excuse to go for a ride for future parts

So I got my new pressure switch, any suggestions on tools to get the old one out? It's a weird rounded hexagon shape that's pretty tight in there.

The unit Dave recommends does not have the plastic do hickey which is good IMO.  It is only $12 bucks too!

Honestly, I ended up just buying OEM. Figure when it's something that caused an oil leak and can cause an oil leak in the future. Might as well spend the extra couple bucks and go OEM.
