The engine paint came out nice on the crankcase.  Any internal engine upgrades in the works?
thanks, its starting to look a bit more presentable now. No engine "upgrades" other than a 601 big bore kit and and an oil cooler (temps and traffic here demand it) . I just wanna get this thing running and on the road at this point

601 sounds like the Wiseco. No replacement for displacement.
this is just the cruzinimage kit from ebay. 3mm over.

That's right. The Wiseco is sub 600 but higher compression.

if i had the coin (and a better idea of what im doing ) id be on the wisecos. Almost a shame to hide such s pretty piston inside the engine next project maybe...if i ever finish this one, that is. Haha

I think the cruzinimage kit will work just fine.  There are many members who have used it.  To get the best out of a bore kit, and while you have the engine apart, a port job is a great upgrade to improve A/F flow.  Also, this is a good opportunity to check the condition of your valves -- you can lap them -- and valve seals.

yup did a lap job when i changed out the valve seals. Figured porting might have to wait till i have a bit more experience, id hate to screw it up with some over-eager grinding.

That's a prudent choice. I'm told that removing too much material can also decrease performance.

Forks are rebuilt. Couldnt save the old fork tubes. Went with cyclex replacements and kept the front end stock to avoid further "upgrade fever" spreading to the triples, brakes, etc...for now, anyway

Rehab'ed the wheels the bike came with. KZ cast wheels. Touch of straightening and sandblas to clean off the oxidation. Going to powder in pewter or bronze and slapping on sum new bearings.
Nice and clean and straight.

Gotta love sundays. Made some progress today. Overhauled the clutch.
Got my pistons ringed and back on the rods.
And slapped on an 18-tooth front sprocket and a refurbished oil pump.

Coupla questions: should i have somehow primed the pump full with oil before reassembly? And a bit of play on the front sprocket is normal right?

The usual top triple mod when running clip-ons. TIG the crap out of the underside and shave off the perches. More spit and polish due but you get the idea.

Top end came together today the MLS gasket is a beaut to use
Have a slight issue with the long flange bolt in front though. Discovered why it was missing when i got the bike. Threads are stripped long way down to re-thread. Wish i checked before she came back together. any suggestions for a fix?

You could try to attach your thread tap to a long extension (or two) and tap the hole? I'd use blue LocTite when installing it though, and plenty of cutting fluid as you tap.

Or, pop the head and tap the hole before you button it up the whole way. Head needs to be re-torqued anyway to prevent leakage and take out the stretch of the studs/squish of the gasket before you call it done.

Bummer.
Major bummer well, it is a 40 year old lump after all. Bound to be a few more gremlins before shes on the road. I like the idea of an extra long tap better than popping the head. Ill see what i can find/figure out.

Well i racked my brain trying to figure out a tap extention that would work...suffice to say i couldnt come up with anything solid. Invested in a helicoil/powercoil kit and poppin the head as you suggest. Fingers crossed the MLS gasket will tolerate removal and reuse/retorque
