About every 4-5 years we have a good stretch during the winter without power. Not necessarily from ice or snow, but from excessive PNW rain softening the ground, and then wind storms blowing trees over. Hate it every time.
A gas generator kept us warm and the pipes from bursting about 8 years back when we were out for 6 days during a big snow year.
Most recently we were out for 2 days from a wind storm.
Well worth the cost of the electrician to install an outlet at my panel, and another SOHC for me to maintain
A lot cheaper than a plumber and a water damage guy, too
