Help with wiring harness position on frame.
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:28:53 AM »
So I'm reassembling my CB 750 K5 and I am having some trouble getting the wiring harness to fit nicely on the frame. I have it running to the left of the main bar of the frame but I can't seem to get the brake switch, horn, and coil power wires to reach all at the same time. I haven't made any geometric modifications to the bike it all and it all did fit. I'm also not sure how the front of the wiring harness passes to the headlight bucket in regards to the tank mount bushings. Does anybody have any pictures of an exposed frame and how the wiring harness traverses the frame. It seems the back of the wiring harness is easier to deal with as it gets close to the battery box.

Thanks.

The maunal is available at the top of this page look on page 166, I think.

I've got page 166 printed out. It's a pretty simple schematic that is somewhat helpful.

I have pics, but cann't re size them....I can, if it helps, tell that the harness originally
went OVER the left front tank mount. Then THRU the triangulated tunnel portion of
the frame backbone, and dropped off the wiring to the coils, still from within the tunnel.....more if you need it, just ask and I'll check my K5...

Thanks.

I sent you an email so you can send me photos - no need to resize them. But the description helps. I'm going out to fiddle now.

Getting the wiring harness through the triangle portion of the frame will mean I'll have to remove the coils that I just mounted as it seems you have to put the harnessing first.

These photographs are all I needed to get my wiring harness in 100%. Thanks so much!

But I too have an extra green dangling unused wire (you can see it in JS's photo also, the unused green).

Glad you could use them. That extra green ground I'm told, is for European etc. bikes.
Different lighting requirements maybe.

I'm thinking my frame ground might be poor given that I've just freshly powder coated the frame.

Should I wire wheel around the engine mount and get to bare metal or would the engine mount post itself provide a good ground?

Also the rear ground under the seat. Get to bare metal?

I always go to bare metal for any ground connection. Scrub to bare metal, scrub connector, and Apply dilectric grease or a type grease for that specific purpose to prevent rust in the area. Periodically watch for corrosion during maintenance, and correct as necessary....Others may have ideas concerning this as well.....
