Topic: Shortening Fork Boots?

Hi there!

Im looking for a way to reduce the number of pleats on the fork boots. I retrofitted a K7 with original fork ears and fork boots, but since the fork lowers are a little longer, the boots are a bit too compressed for my taste. I guess this could also be interesting for people that lowered the front fork but still want to keep the fork boots. I didn't find anything on this forum but over here there is somebody who found a way that looks pretty genius to me: http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4874

If you scroll down a bit more than half page, a user named 5twins displays how to cut out the desired amount of pleats, and then wrap the top one over the remaining upper part that's on the fork ear. So far so good, but he's talking about the XS650, and describes that its fork boot is tapered towards the top which would make this easier.

I wonder if there is somebody on this forum that could chime in on this, or maybe somebody who has worn out fork boots lying around to give that a try...?

That would also be a possibility. But I just restored my forks last winter, so everything is new. Doing it again in, say, 3-4 years, that would be ok. But out of interest: is anybody making shorter fork boots that fit a CB750? I don't recall seeing a place selling those...
