What happens if you want to buy beer and don't drive? What gets scanned then?
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

anyone can get one as long as you can prove you are you.

Yean man, I read that too.
I figured when Snowden made his remarks EVERYTHING was being logged somewhere.
My friend that tracks this kind of stuff more than I do said in the early naughts that all texts were being recorded by the NSA.
I naturally thought by now they could store this kind of data by now so it is no surprise to me.

Hah, more freedom of speech now than in the 50/60/70's ... lol!.... we didn't have anything like the info. collecting capabilities and sharing either. So the 'free speech' part is false and uncared for as all your #$%* is compiled... fight it !

You miss the point.  I am talking about freedom of speech and you are talking about right to privacy.  In the 1950's people where jailed, censored, and blacklisted because they refused to answer questions about their politcial affilations or those of their friends, co-workers, or relatives .  As I previously stated Pete Seeger was censored on  a national TV show because he had the audacity to suggest that the President was over his head in Vietnam.  Given what can be and is said on TV, radio, and other media these days I stand by my statement.  I don't disagree that data collection is much more invasive now but that's a different issue...right to privacy.

free speech was the first one to fall...in that fallen state they call New York the police pepperspray girls for speaking out against the big bank bailout or how about the guy in Oakland they shot in the head with a bean bag from 15ft and flashbanged the people that rushed to aid ....all for peacefully exercising his 1st amendment right.. I read they have to pay him 4.5 million for that little taste of oppression ...and that guy was a marine vet from the latest #$%*pile debacle.... you'd be nuts to speak out in public if you are not planning on getting your ass kicked, flashbanged and peppersprayed if you don't get arrested your facial image will be in a database , you bet your hippy ass it will. We could go down the list of all of our rights and see they are slowly being pissed on.
Point is is this. what is stated publicly is almost always a watered down version ...and if it it not, then it sure will be when the power has that talk with you about the way things are. someone told it pretty good in 1976 here:

Land of the free?

Not for a long time... We gave up on that experiment when the "radicals" of the 60's protested against the government's publicity campaign on the validity of the Vietnam War. Since then, there has been a steady retrograde of freedom of speech and the press. It's as bad today as it is in some other countries. Now, we do tolerate a great deal more on our TVs in terms of ridiculing our elected officials, the hyper-sexualization of content, etc. But I'm not sure that is the same thing as Freedom of Speech. Dissenting opinions are castigated, attacked, and vilified. Not sure there's any progress from the 50/60/70s as Srust claims. I just see it as a different method to the same objective.

And there is no rational debate, we have lost all right to our privacy. Much of it is by our voluntary participation, some by virtue of neglect, and lots by virtue of cyber trespassing.

Big data is a problem with unknown dangers. Trust me, the exponential evolution of technology is becoming untenable. We are creating tools with more power than we understand, with no ability to govern their use, or limit their penetration. Citing Eric Schmidt, "The internet is the first thing "man" has created that he can't control".

And it is the core of all electronic data. Now, Planet Labs will be establishing a ring of 100 down-looking satellites to take photos of the earth in real time, every second, and transmit those back to data centers for real time analysis. Anyone see the potential hazards here?

Forget about your driver's license, start worrying about the big things...

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
