Front brakes 350F please help!!
« on: July 09, 2014, 11:44:35 PM »
What is the correct approach to changing the front pads on a 1973 350F? Is it to split the caliper by removing the two main bolts or is it done by removing the rotor guard, the tension bolt with spring, the two fender bolts and the hard line and then dropping the wheel? Please forgive my ignorance. Recently purchased bike with fully rebuilt caliper and new pads. Test ride front brakes squealing. Owner applied the proper goo on the pads prior to delivery. Quiet for two rides and now squealing again...Plan to remove the pads, inspect and identify source of squeal or replace with softer pads and goo accordingly. Any guidance, suggestions, or even ridiculing at this point, would be greatly appreciated.

You only need remove the two bolts holding the two caliper halves. The inside pad holder will fall free and the outer part will just lift up and away from the disc and the brake arm. There are plenty of threads on how to service the calipers but if everything is working fine and in good condition its an easy job to fit the new pads in and bolt it back together.

I'd suggest leaving the pads as is, and de-glaze the rotor with some emory paper, and be sure the stationary pad is gapped correctly so both halves meet the rotor flush.
If that doesnt work:
-remove the pads and scuff them, or chamfer the leading edge.
-be sure the teflon oring is installed behind the piston side pad.
-cross drill the rotor
