Topic: CB750 K6 Dutch Barnfind rebuild to semi-cafe ( "Glamourshots" )

Hi Guys,

I wanted to share my build with you guys.

In April 2012 I found this CB750 K6 in a heated barn in my birthvillage.

Not in the best condition, but after 7 years there certainly also not the worst, so we took her home 


As the Tank was heavily damaged, and both the covers cracked or missing I searched the net for replacement parts.
Although it was very soon in the build I bid on this set on e-bay and won it ! 

I know it is from a K4 in stead of a K6 but with some fuel line modifications it fits the purpose perfectly.

I took her appart, cleaned the shed and started the build.



Got the parts back from powder coating:


 mounted new bushes in the swingarm


Got the galvanised parts in 


And started the rebuild, while the engine was at Soda blasting....

Ordered new Alu rim's and new spokes and laced them with new Avon tyres:


Putting the engine back in, and as wel mounted some Piggy BAck shocks from a younger model CB.


Did a double front brake mod 


And got her back to the streets in te summer last year.



Now working on some small issues ( leaking exhaust gaskets , making a bracket for the damper etc )  And thinking of mounting these period correct rear sets after polishing the hell out of em

Tastefully done...those look like Tickle rear sets.  I have a set that were made for the cb400four adapted to my 750.  I would definately use them with those clubmans.

Unfortunately the 4-4 original exhaust was rusted indeed, almost fell off the bike when touching it...
Even had holes on the top ....


As the engine was out of the frame I did pull the cilinders off, and discovered the rings were almost at wear.
So changed the rings, lapped the valves, mounted new stem seals.... Looked like it was the first time she was ever opened in 30 years 

I'm working on final tweaking of the carbs now to the 4-1 exhaust, decided to keep stock filters after having lot's off issues with my CB500 and pods.

Yes My guess is also Tickle, although they alo resemble these Dunstalls.

Welcome from Texas.  Love how it turned out.   Planet Blue was a K5 color here in the States, but I don't think Europe imported K5's?  What exhaust is that?

In the Netherlands we had nothing in between the K2 and K6 ......
The exhaust I found on the Dutch Graigslist.
PO told me it was from a Swedich company ? never found anything about it though ... was previously mounted on a CB750 F1, he also had the Bodykit from the same company ... tank and seat all in 1 polyester thing..  looked like this:

Okay...
So , since the rebuild I kept having issues running anything below half throttle.
It felt like 1 of the cylinders were not firing. After the "exhaust heat" test I found cyl 1 cold.
After installing the electronic ignition from my CB500 to this CB750, the problem was still there.
Decided to clean the carbs again, and set the float hights.

During this I made 1 subtle change, put the pilot jet from carb 1 to carb 2.
Seemd okay at first, but then found cyl 2 not firing ( probably this runs smoother than having an outside cyl out )

Thus.... I decided after searching the web and this forum, indeed the pilot jet should be the issue.
I just now removedthe bowl while the carbs were still mounted and removed the pilot jet.....  to find it was clogged.

cleaned it and.... Light at the end of the ... jet 



Too bad it's now 21:30 here in NL... and I don't want to wake up the kids.....
I will post the results of the testdrive soonest

The body kit is from Muscle Machine, a company in south part of Sweden (today Marmite producing bathroom equipment). I think they ended up with motorcycle body kit production middle/end of the 80's. I ordered some small parts from them 1985-86 to my body kit I bought but never used. Hanging in my garage today. I do not know if the fiberglass like the modern fuel, probably not.

The 4-1 is also from a company in south part of Sweden, Stigefelt Motor. Influensed by Yoshimura?
I had thoughts to buy one 1979-80

Candy Sapphire is indeed the original color, as I took it from the Barn.
The color now on there is Planet Blue from a US K4/5, I bought the set from the USA, actually thinking it was Candy Sapphire, it looks the same on ( some ) pictures.

Carb issues are SOLVED !

I drove her to work today, without any problems at all.
Can't imagine how good this feels, and also how smooooooth she runs !

Driving back home from work turned out to be a little nightmare 
First I lost power, until she came to a total stop.... could not see or feel or find anything wrong....... until....... put the petcock on reserve and all my probllems were solved....
Seems even when you have this much fun riding... you need to go to the gasstation every ones in a while 

Met this very nice "same period" VW Van though, at an old fashion style station, where they fill up the tank for you.

Endless fun does not = endless fuel. Inexpensive lesson to learn ;-)

Fuel disappear much quicker with a hotter cam too.... especially when twisting the throttle in periods with hard engine decelerations breaking-in new pistons. I might have some carb jetting left to improve. I do not recall that my old Action Fours SS-1 drank as much as my new CX-7 that start to pull with a scream after 6000rpm with 17-48 drive sprockets.

I had to switch to reserve when driving the other day, I remembered the bubbling sound during deceleration on a nice country road. I though I had 3-5 litres more..... :-)

Today was a very nice day to ride, test out the "new" rearsets ( painted them black, as alumium stood out too much ) and take some"glamour shots.

Took the girl out last weekend to the bikers classics event at the Belgium Spa Francorchamps Circuit.!?
It was a 700 km roadtrip back and forth where she did not skip a beat, also not in the rain . It is a very special feeling driving there on your own full resto bike I can say !
