Why did the chicken cross the road?
« on: February 24, 2014, 06:15:40 AM »
BARACK OBAMA: Let me be perfectly clear, if the chickens like their eggs they can keep their eggs. No chicken will be required to cross the road to surrender her eggs. Period.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Let them eat chicken. But no larger than six trimmed ounces with a healthy, fresh variety of colorful veggies and their choice of yogurt or fruit for dessert. If there's any questions, I'll be in Aspen.

JOHN McCAIN: My friends, the chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON: What difference at this point does it make why the chicken crossed the road.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either with us or against us. There is no middle ground here.

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken.

AL GORE: I invented the chicken.

JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white?

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he is acting by not taking on his current problems before adding any new problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross the road so badly. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a NEW CAR so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

ANDERSON COOPER: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's guilty! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way the chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain, alone.

JERRY FALWELL: Because the chicken was gay! Can't you people see the plain truth? That's why they call it the 'other side.' Yes, my friends, that chicken was gay. If you eat that chicken, you will become gay too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the Liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless phrases like 'the other side.' That chicken should not be crossing the road. It's as plain and as simple as that.

BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heartwarming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world, crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2014, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken2014. This new platform is much more stable and will never reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

EDGAR ALLEN POE....to Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

JERRY SEINFELD: Why does anyone cross a road? I mean, why doesn't anyone ever think to ask, What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place, anyway?

BUDDHA: Asking this question denies your own chicken nature.

PHYSICIST: Because the chicken's momentum had a positive component towards the other side of the road.

QUANTUM PHYSICIST: Because you measured its momentum too precisely.

MATHEMATICIAN: Because of the intermediate values theorem.

ALGEBRAIC GEOMETRIST: Well, consider a faithfully flat etale coherent sheaf...

C PROGRAMMER: cross_road() was called from get_other_side()

C++ PROGRAMMER: chicken->CrossRoad() was called from chicken->GetOtherSide()

RMS: The licenses for most roads are designed to take away your chicken's freedom to cross it. By contrast, the GALLUS Road Public Licence...

GARY LARSON: ``THE OTHER SIDE - Why do you need a reason?''
GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.

MARVIN: The other side is just as dull as this one. Don't talk to me about chickens.

ARTHUR DENT: Why did the chicken cross the road? 42? No, that doesn't make sense.

GOETHE: Es irrt das Huhn, solang es die Straße übergeht.

HARI SELDON: It's part of the Plan.

HAMLET:
To cross, or not to cross, that is the question: -
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind, to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous side;
Or to take arms against a road of troubles,
And by crossing end them?

THERMODYNAMIST: Because the pressure of chickens was greater on this side of the road, and the chicken's crossing made the entropy greater.

LOUIS FARRAKHAN: The road, you see, represents the black man. The chicken `crossed' the black man in order to trample him and keep him down.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.: I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.

Mathematics professor who used mathematics to predict the course of history in what was then known as The Foundation Trilogy.  Read that about 35 years ago and it popped right into my head.  Didn't need google or your tag line. :)  Funny how somethings stick and sometimes I don't remember the name of someone I met yesterday. ;D

Yes: one of my favorite SF Authors Issac Asimov.  I read the Foundation Trilogy about the same time, great books.

Frank Herbert is my favorite.  Dune and its society developed by fear of computers is certainly a fantastic extrapolation of technology's effect on society.

I met Herbert by chance around 1984 in Port Townsend, WA.   Dune was very good...the movie not so much.

One of my favorite is Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C Clark.  The basic premise was ripped off for the second Star Trek movie...the one with the whales. ;D

Yes the Dune movie was a lemon, the two mini-series on SF Chanel were better.   Buy the deluxe addition DVDs  Chani topless... :o :D

I hear rumors of a Rendezvous with Rama movie for time to time Butthoonose. I do not see The Voyage Home as a knock off or RWR other than the shape of the alien vehicle.

The Clark Novel I would like to see done is Childhoods End.

Large cylindrical alien ship enters our solar system for unknown reason...that's where I was going with that.  Yeah.....there is a mother lode of quality stuff from the masters out there...it just seems Star Wars dumbed the genre down to a degree as far as film goes.  His best film I thought was THX1138.

Dhalgren by Samuel Delany was another I read long ago.  It's 800 pages and has a rep as a difficult read but I was younger and tougher then. ;D

One of my favourites is  E E Doc Smith's Lensman series. I've read it a few times, its almost time to read it again (memory fade strikes again).
Apart from SF most of my reading is NF so much so that I like to get to my GP appointments early so's I can have a good read of National Geographic mags in the waiting room.

You want good old SF try the martian books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Disney made a hash of John Carter by not advertising it enough but they did re-release the books at a reasonable price
