Cb550 Crank Removal
« on: March 18, 2014, 11:09:21 AM »
How does the crank come out?
Split the cases, but the primary??? Chain is keeping the crank in place.
Can't see how to remove that sproket.
Took the oil pump off thinking it could be pushed out....but no.

I feel stupid.
Thanks.

Take the clutch cover off and remove the clutch and shifting mechanisms..(probably all off since the cases are split) see the gear at 5 oclock? remove the bearing stay ( 2 bolts), it may or may not have an additional guard on it. the shaft ( Primary shaft) that the gear is on is threaded on the inside. Hand thread your bottom rear engine mount/peg mount into threaded shaft. Thread the  nut and washer to the other end, put a crappy wrench against the washer and tap it away from the case with a hammer lightly, the shaft and the bearing will come out toward you, away from the case. Watch the innards on the primary so you know how it came apart. When the bearing is free , remove the engine mount and take the primary shaft apart being careful not to drop parts...slip the primary chain off. And away you go.
Be sure to check each part Especially needle and ball bearing for condition and proper order for re assembly.
