K1 Handlebar grips
« on: September 11, 2019, 09:09:21 PM »
The original 1971 grips on my K1 are hard as rocks and are actually uncomfortable for any significant saddle time. I have sourced OEM grips correct for the K1. I'm having a hell of a time removing the old ones. They seem to have welded themselves to the bar as well as the throttle tube. Suggestions for their removal would be highly appreciated.

If your not looking to not save them you could cut/slit them with a sharp razor cutter/box knife being careful not to slit your throttle tube. Also if you can work some window cleaner or soapy water or such under them with a syringe you might get them to break free. Getting an air gun tip under and inside them can break them loose also.

My riding gloves have padded palms, making for a nice grip. I don't ride without them.

I have nerve damage in hand, love my foam grips. They only last a couple seasons but are cheap, and confortable. I always razor knife mine off.

I slice them along one line. Then cut off the end and throw them in a storage bin. They are great for protecting your frame, when pulling or reinstalling the engine!

Shoot some compressed air under the edge, they almost shoot off. It helps going on too.
