Are you going to have Plan B in case this doesn't do as well as planned? OR will you get some seat time testing before The Salt?

Yes Jerry..............Plan B is a spare box with added intake areas.

We will be busy on the salt.............2 bikes; 4 classes...........I am preparing separate tool-kits and will have boxes to store the fairings. We will have a lot more room with my larger trailer. My sister-in-law will be in charge of media & communication.

Frank.............your welcome to camp at the bend............but very few stay there since the Mayor of Wendover (hardware store owner) has opened the proposed museum-site to campers. Water and a dump-station are installed along with a paved driveway. The fee is a goodwill offering to the museum. Or............you could camp in my van and have a hot-shower at the Motel 6 ;D ;D ;D

If you or anyone else is planning to visit for more than one day, I can get advanced passes at a discount.................but time is running short ;)

As of today, my crew will be Dave Murre & Jerry - the Rx Man; assisted by David & Mary Ruth Rodel. One friend, Danny Dawson (I sold him my sandcast CB750 in 1971) will visit for a day or more. Several others are on the 'maybe' list.

Sad news today.................Sam Wheeler of Kawasaki EZ-Hook Streamliner fame died of injuries sustained yesterday while testing at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Sam was trying to be the first motorcycle to go 400-mph with a 'Busa' motor in has streamliner. Sam was a class-act with quiet energy. He will be missed.

Progress is being made :) :) :) :) :) New fuel-cells...........twin tanks for a total of about 6-Liters. We finished up the rear-wheel disks to enclose the spokes and applied fresh lithium grease to the axle parts. By Wednesday we hope to run the motor and test everything for potential leaks. The fairing is at the painter and should be finished this week.

If all goes well, we will have enough time to test the Triumph and will be prepared somewhat ahead of schedule. We leave on August 24th...........The SCTA speedweek event begins this weekend. We will miss Sam Wheeler :( but all looks good for 3 other streamliner-bikes to try a get to 400-mph :) :) :)

Thanks, Frank..............We have 'FIRE IN THE HOLE' ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

All new fuel delivery and tanks........no leaks ;D......Dave knows a few things about welding alloy.

After sitting quiet for a year, we ran the motor ........sounds great........to get it hot......changed the oil and filter........and plan to complete the safety wire tomorrow. I have decided to load a small open-trailer inside of my 20-foot car-hauler along with all of the gear. We will park the big trailer in the pits on the salt and use the small trailer to cart the bikes to the starting lines and fetch them from the end of the courses. If someone has to make a lunch-run (Jerry ;)) I will have a bicycle and a scooter to use. A sometime acquaintance of ours, Bill Church, and big-time bike enthusiast will be joining us and offers additional video and communication expertise.

I'll take a few pics when the bike is 'outdoors' and somewhat decorated.

A few pics of the finished CBR for 2016. I plan to make the first run with the new fairing. If successful, the number will change to 754 when the fairing is removed to try a beat the current record of 125+ mph.

2 or 3 additional decals may be added, but otherwise...........WE ARE READY ;D ;D ;D

The bike looks very sleek and slippery, Dennis!! The one possible concern I see is the faired front fender; if the wind catches it at 100+ MPH, it might steer the bike in a direction other than planned? Are you taking a stock fender as a plan B?

Thanks,Scottly........... No runs are made if the wind is above 10-mph................Yes, I have run my Triumph Cub with a similar fender during a cross-wind and could 'feel' it.  When I am in full-tuck, the top of my helmet is 46-inches high and the widest areas are at the crank and my elbows at about 22-inches.

I hope the salt gods shine on you Dennis. Good luck.

One of the fast GP guys last weekend had what he called a rhino front fender on his TZ250 that's supposed to help on fast tracks. Maybe something to look at for your situation. I'll see what I can find out on them, but the idea is to supposedly lessen turbulence in the frontal area, although you likely know all about this....good or bad.

Thanks for the kind thoughts ;D ;D ;D

Yes, Frank, Its a GOOD number............Brent, turbulence at the front is difficult to overcome. For land-speed trials we have limitations on the amount of 'wheel' coverage to prevent the adverse effect of any cross-winds. I am using a set of '79 GL1000 front forks and trees which are about an inch wider than stock CB750 and early Wings. My new fender is wider which is thought to push more air to the side when at or near maximum speed.

I have watched several hours of wind-tunnel and Go-Pro videos of actual land-speed runs and note how the air-flow changes as the speed increases.....sometimes drastically. One dramatic video shows the typical salt-encrusted bike becoming CLEAN when at speed only to accumulate salt as it slowed. The spokes in the wheels act as large fans causing very disturbed air-flow. I am allowed to use the alloy 'wheel-disks' on the rear to reduce turbulence.......but not on the front. As the speed of the bike increases it tends to be 'lifted' from the racing surface by air-pressure and rear-drag. Fat tires and flat belly-pans tend to be detrimental causes of that 'light-weight' feeling. The rider that died while riding near 300-mph had earlier complained about his bike's tendency to 'wheelie' at high-speeds :(     I have no desire to emulate his front-fender and fairing style. ;)

The SCTA 'Speedweek' event is now over and they had very minor issues with salt conditions. The weather reports says clear and sunny with temps in the low 90s and light-winds mostly from the east.

I expect the BMST crew is now re-working the courses for our event. Lots of anticipation for the streamliners to compete with attempts to exceed 400-mph ;D ;D ;D

That fender is a new look to me...........but it may have more to do with directing air to the intakes than anything else.

I like the 'clean' fairing...........plenty of room for a major sponsor ;)
