Dennis,
Watched this thread with much interest. I have always had an affection for the salt attempts and this one on a sohc is right up my ally! I will be on the Isle of man watching the Manx GP and the classic with my buddies at the same time you are making your salt attempts. We have talked about at least visiting the salt next year for the trials. Drove through on I80 in March and had to stop at the "speedway". Its a dead end road! Good luck with your runs and I can't wait to hear the results. I am going next year so if you plan a run in 15, i'm there if you need a rag tuner!

Still a lot of work to do on the CBR...............making air-intakes to fit between a standard box and the carbs involves some creativity with PVC and a lathe to retain the 'bell' inside of the somewhat modified box. High-temp aircraft ducts fit on the RS34s to make a 'seal' for the PVC pipe and portions of air-tubes gleaned from other bikes with large carbs............all in an effort to maintain sufficient intake-air at high-speed.

I know you will be flogging around like a mad dog this weekend trying to get it all together and just like to wish you well.
I like what your doing mate and I like how your doing it.
Your doing the forum proud and after yours and Daves hard work deserve some good luck, we all hope you get there and good fortune comes your way. With your forum mates there to take some great action snaps we are expecting nothing but the best pics, including a video clip with the noise turned up real real real real LOUD

Smell and hear the exhaust with a hint of salt, thats living baby.

I am in Europe for awhile so wont be on much

Warmed up the motor today with the air-box on and clamped in place. We had a good fan blowing against the motor. Don't worry about loud...........IT IS

We spin the motor for about 20-seconds to get the oil-pressure gauge to move........then flip the switch and let her warm-up for about a minute before she idles at 3,000 RPM.........still somewhat quiet and a gentle lope in the exhaust.........just begin to twist the throttle and she gets aggressive REAL FAST

Tomorrow the CBR gets a final head-torque and then she should be ready to ride

But rainy weather is forecast...........so it looks like Monday

I'll be packing the van and trailer most of the weekend. I have a little 'work' to do over the weekend so I can pay my bills...........but all should be ready. The salt-report looks promising..........may be damp for set-up but conditions rapidly improve with each day of sun

I'll be watching your posts. I'm actually working a 50 hour week beginning Monday

, driving the 150 miles home Sat afternoon, taking a good nap then packing Sat pm before heading out Sun am. Sure hoping for good weather.

Anyone else going besides Zac and dad? I don't have a room mate that I know of.

Just pulled out my 2 sets of Talk A Bout radios and binoculars. I'll dig out my Go Pro but I really don't know much about it. Any other suggestions?

Geeze... I wish I was going this year! Before I heard of this attempt I planned to assault the salt next year. I am definitely going in 15 with my buddies. Hope to meet up with you all then. *Raising hand* Im goin..fired up the new engine today,cam degree stuff was being a #$%*,but got it dialed in,set ignition timing with new Pamco unit,give it the once over again in the morning,then pull out old engine and install the new one.Sounds cool for a lil bitty thing,i am so stoked.Friends showed up from Australia,got them a CBR Blackbird to ride,been sittin so we gotta do the old bring it back to life trick..other pal driving out from Atlanta,were leaving early Friday morning out of Denver..so far so good.

That ole 750 is gonna GO!

We boys are getting excited

After checking the torque..........good...........and adjusting the valves..........3 x .001" each...........I rode the CBR today.............but just putting around in the yard

Stock clutch with Barnett springs needed two adjustments but still not just right............at anything less than 2000 rpms the cam/rockers clatter.........but all is smooth from about 2400.........the cheap little tach only weighs 2-oz. with the battery.

Made a short list of 20-items still to be accomplished.............including mounting the catch-bottle for the breather tube from the head.

It would be nice to weigh the bike............were thinking 320-lbs. wet

Ran the CBR at 5000 RPMs just before we packed it into the trailer............SMOOTH

Starting out a 125 mains in the carbs but have 3 sizes smaller and 4 sizes larger. Clutch is good and so far all is

Just heard from Dennis. It's a BUST. Due to wind and rain, they only got three runs in. The track has been closed, They decided to leave early and are on their way home. No records, sad and disappointed.
