Wonder if some teams have gone to the expense of replacing std ball bearings with ceramic bearings? The later are very pricey but very very low friction.

The current vintage 1000cc NA class semi streamlined record is around 200mph set by a Triumph triple?  Is that what your aiming for?  Frankly I'm not sure I'd want to go 200mph on a cb750.  I might soil my shorts...

George
That Triumph Triple record is around 180-190 mph and is in a Pushrod Class, so a SOHC would not be running for that class record.

That's a real bummer.  I am getting a real appreciation lately for all it takes to put together a dedicated hipo cb750.  It's gotto be frustrating that your plans were called off on account of things beyond your control.  It's a real shame the salt flats have become less consistent and reliable as it was in the past.  I sure hope you get good salt next year.

It's a long trek for you to make Maxton or Ohio I guess.  At least the surface is reliable...  there is something cool about the salt though, I get it.  It's on my bucket list. 8)

George

E.C.T.A. Maxton event was shut down a few years ago, and moved to Ohio.

Jerry............Of course we will be around ::)

The Tom Mellor Trident competes in the 1000cc A-Class, Special Construction, and is a pushrod motor. His Partial Streamlined kit is a one of a kind and likely the best in class. Tom is very recognizable.....he uses a '56 Rolls Royce for his tow-vehicle..........and he wears a vintage red shirt on most days with printed fabric displaying CB750s. The Trident and CB750 have been very close in performance since 1969. In the 750cc class Tom holds records at 160-mph naked and 175 or so with partial streamlining. I helped him change jets in his Amal GP carbs in 2009............and, YES, I don't see why a 1,000cc build in my chassis (auto-frame, no frame-kit needed) could not get to 200 mph 8) 8) 8) When Tom first ran his 1000cc bike he had traction problems......so he added more than 40-lbs. of lead to the swingarm  ::) Right now our bikes are very close in total weight with fluids and riders in full gear.

George........personally I have never gone faster than 135-mph.......so I wear swim-trunks under my leathers so nothing will show ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Frank........I'll be going to the Chief Black Hawk AMCA event in Davenport, Iowa..........huge swap-meet and the best vintage flat-track racing.

We are a long way from considering ceramic bearings........

Its 2016 and plans are underway for going to Bonneville in August.............but first a little something from the past. This was an interview of me by Zaks' (grasscutter) Dad in 2013...........you can see Jerry (RXman) and Zak......along with my builder/tuner Dave Murre in the background.

Very cool Denis, thanks for posting. At 8:17 the explanation is a little hard to read. Tech disassembles & inspects the top end. Is there compensation for gaskets etc. or is that just part of winning?

Brent........Its all part of WINNING ;D ;D ;D

Because of the salty environment, I carry plastic bags and new 'tubs' to enclose the head and cylinder ASAP. Participants with central plug-holes to all cylinders can be measured without a tear-down.

EM.......Yes, Dave operates Murre Salvage, a small motorcycle and vintage-car salvage yard. He is also the long-time president of the Kettle Moraine Sport Riders MC. The club hosts a hill-climb event every Father's Day and a Duel-Sport ride each October. Almost everyone in the club is or was involved in motorcycle racing.

The following was just posted by the BMST regarding the 2016 event..............
Forget the Politics.. Get Ready to Race!

June 3, 2016 by admin
BMST2016_AMA_Thumbnail

It’s the political season and every channel, radio station, and Facebook post has some sort of politics on it.

As you know, there is a lot of interest in looking at the long term health of the salt flats. Everyone has an opinion of what to do but no one has a solution. We’re involved in the discussion but our focus is on our competitors. Our focus is on providing the premier land speed racing event. Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, the AMA Land Speed Grand Championship, is gearing up  to race this year, with permits in hand and volunteers working behind the scenes.

You’re a competitor… Forget the politics. Ignore the fear.
Get in your shop.  Get your bike ready.

It’s time for you to get ready to race against history.

See you on the Salt!

Delvene Manning
Owner/Event Manager

We have been busy...........new front alloy fender............and now installing a Daytona CR750 fairing with a belly-pan.............and still fabricating the ram-air induction.  Pics will begin when I find my camera. We sold our house so a few things got lost in the move to an apartment in Plymouth and a 24 x 44-foot storage unit for my toys.

So I'm almost retired from my commercial appraisal business...........and have less time than ever :D
Yes, we moved.........and then took a load of furniture to our daughter in N.C...........with one more load to go to the other daughter in CA.........and I am now moving to a smaller storage unit (24 x 20) which is using up most of my skills as a 'tight-packer' ;D ;D ;D ;D

BUT.....the CBR continues to be improved and the reports from the salt-flats all look positive  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The new front fender, fairing, and ram-air are nearly finished. The standard and custom parts to the air box are empty. The CBR600-box has a K&N filter. In a few days the final design for a new gas-tank will be transferred to alloy for fabrication and the fairing will get a paint-job.

Drag Racer Frank..............your invited of course...........Talk to Jerry about joining him.........or ride with me.........we leave Wisconsin on the 24th.

Brent............I will try to post more pics of the air-intake in a few days. Once we decided on the air-pathways.........the gas-tank design became the biggest challenge..........and must contain a minimum of 5 liters.

Sixth............all salty news is welcome 8)  I hope he has cleared the 'dust-bin' fairing challenge, which means his bike must have been produced with an available fairing from the factory. Otherwise they are banned as they are very unstable in only slightest of cross-winds. I hold the AMA-sanctioned North-American records in the 250cc pushrod classes for Modified-Gas and Modified Partial Streamlined-Gas. I plan to also be running my TRIUMPH CUB this year because I believe it can run in the mid-90s and up my existing records.

Regarding weight...........I am down about 2-stones........err.....21-lbs. and have knocked 8-lbs. from the battery weight by going with a lithium-ion unit. Please note........E=mc-squared is a therum based on absolute traction. I have yet to experience any loss of traction while riding on the salt. Most riders with 90-HP and higher have to ADD weight to the swing-arm.

Those 21lbs should make all the difference especially on the 250. A good dose of that good spicy Mexican the night before may help too. ☺

Jerry.............Looking forward to the authentic Mexican food ;) ;)

Air-intake nearly complete.  The gas-tank will look something like two bread-tins with a joining filler placed along the outside of each air-tube. My helmet-chin will nest between the tubes and my arms will be close to the outer edges of the tank. If my math is correct, each side should hold about 3-liters, and each will have a direct petcock to the fuel-rail.

The ram-air effect is twofold: Cooler air than what is available behind the HOT head...........and replacement of 'LOST' air that is flowing the wrong-way at maximum bike speed. If the system works to restore the air to the same as surrounding atmospheric pressure..........its a success. According to Formula-1 race tech, the best system will ad no more than 1% to the ambient air. Based on Honda and Kawasaki reports, minimal HP gains are noted at 100-MPH. When speed exceeds 150-MPH as much as 5-HP can be gained. Its not a kick-in-the-pants kind of thing. Tom Mellor has ram-air on his 200-mph Triumph Trident. He needs more than 3-miles to get up to speed with only a few MPH gained in the last-mile before he hits the timing section of the course.

If I gain 4 or 5 HP, I have extra sprockets to take advantage ;D ;D ;D ;D
