Olla Cb400F Belgium
« on: March 22, 2014, 03:10:20 AM »
Hi everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself and my CB400F,
looking foreward to share my experiences and frustration on the board here.
I'm a class A amateur when it comes to bikes and forums for that matter.

Bought myself a CB400F in very good condition a couple of weeks ago, before that I had a KTM Duke125.
Don't recon a very popular bike here but I wanted something reliable and easy to learn how to ride, guess I can tick off that from my list and sold it for my lifelong dream a Honda CB.
As I said before I will have to start from 0 when it comes to fiddling with the bike, but I have some people around who know a lot more than me.

Guess I'll upload a pic and continue browsing the forum for now!
Cheers !

Thanks everyone !
Well since the market here is pretty slim when it comes to nice CB's I think I still managed to get a decent price,
I paid 2200 for it, has 63K on it but runs like a charm, as I said before carbs have been revised but not the block itself.
No need for it I recon, only thing that worries me is a rattle at idle, but researched here a bit and seems like a common thing.
It does quiet down at around 1800-2000 rpms.

Next up is te get my right blinker blinking and I only have a small light in front.
Also, my rear breaklight only works when I really REALLY squeeze the front breaklever... Any Ideas?

Greets !

Brake light work correctly with foot pedal?  Most likely the switch for the front brake that is mounted to the steering stem needs replacing if the foot brake works right..  Not blinking could be mismatched bulbs, especially if the left works correctly....Larry

Smokey,
I think you should do a full tune up,i.e. adjust valves and cam chain, service the spark advance unit, check points, set timing.I would take a look at the color of all your spark plugs(keep them in order for each cylinder number)and replace the plugs if they are old. When all those are accomplished then have a look at your carburetor and it's settings.

I think you did ok, remember it's ride me now vs spend a pile and work your ass off to get to ride it. You would spend $600 and up just for decent oem pipes for that!

I'd love to open her up and do a full tune up, but since I don't have any experience what so ever my plan was to ride it this summer, and then to check/repair/tune any problems I encounter next winter.
I still have to do my drivers test so now it's just a waiting game, I hope to be able to ride it this april/may!

Also thanks to eveyone for the tips!

A carb sync may quiet this down, I recently did one on my 550F.

I would at least check the valve adjustment and the cam chain adjustment;damage could be done if you ride it and those items are not checked.
