750 Basketcase Project
« on: March 22, 2014, 09:27:06 AM »
Picked up for 140 bucks. Guy split the motor a few months ago and did nothing with it. I am looking just to replace it. Has everything, just needs reassembly. King/queen seat in amazing good shape, tank is good on the inside too and has a key. One side cover has been repaired. Looking to sell seat and tank and maybe covers too to do a little chop. Gotta work on the titling issue first and foremost!

Took a while but found a good deal. If worse comes to worse I can get the cash back in parts and help some other SOHCs live!

So here is the motor I am picking up tomorrow. I've got the covers for it. As far as the valve over goes, its just a matter of bolting it on, correct? Or is this an ok time to adjust the valves and get it set before putting it in the motor.

I am going to try and installing it by laying the frame over it after setting the motor on its side on an oversized pillow.

Does Honda still carry gaskets for this? Would like to get a new valve cover gasket for obvious reasons.

Makes me wonder what some people are thinking. Surely the PO lost money on that venture. If he'd just spent a bit of time and listed a few items for sale he probably could have made his money back and some... instead he's so lazy he's willing to just sell off a basket of parts for a huge loss.  :-\

Oh well! Works out well for you I guess!  ;)

Good luck with your project. Trying to put something that someone else tore apart is my nightmare. lol

As of lunchtime....motor trick is alot better when you lay it on points side. I used a large pillow.

Adjsuted valves

Put on bare frame then but wheels back on to move around.

Initial bolts installed

Carbs cleaned last night, planning to install this evening. To test compression can I use an old battery hooked to a jump box?

Someone on here said when it rains, it pours, right? Well, after looking local for 4 months, and driving over 2 hours to get a basketcase, a complete (and cheap) 750 comes up for sale 15 miles away. Text the guy and he says that the only issues are a leaky fuel tank (but he has another one) and a fuse keeps blowing (MORE MY ability level). So, had several people interested in my 750 either for parts or to rebuild and I am hoping my 300 investment pays into 500 to cover the cost of this better start of a bike for me.

If a sale doesnt work out, i will start parting things out and you all will be the first to know!
