Acorn nuts...
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:27:38 PM »
Help!  Does anyone know the pitch of the acorn nuts that mate with the upper
shock bolt..the one implanted in the frame on the 750. I tried every acorn nut that
Ace had and the closest was a #10 ...  .125 pitch.  Honda must have invented a
special for this one!

You can buy new chrome nuts from Honda.  Not expensive, paid equivalent of 4$ for two....

acorns are a pain, so few hardware stores carry a good selection of them. They do standard but hardly any metric, which is funny since most vehicles these days are metric now. I have a pain finding ANY metric nut or bolt where I live. Or washers that are not to big on the O.D. yet large enough on the I.D.
Makes you want to scream sometimes. :P

We must be lucky here in Toronto (and Michigan/Illinois).  www.brafasco.com - I buy all my fasteners from them, including metric acorns.

I seem to recall ordering new shock acorns for the 550 from them, but maybe from Honda.  Not sure.  Honda for sure has them though.  Replace the washers under them with nice heavy duty stainless ones.

I had a sim prob on my shocks. I think they are 10x1.00 Just buy from Honda. You will have a hard time finding them. They are odd ball.

A PAO (Previous #$%* Owner) of my K3 shortened the threaded portions of the top shock mounting stud, so I had to cut them off flush, then drill and tap the cast "boss". (this was a bastard of a job because the "boss" is a super hard item, and I destroyed a couple of drill bits in the process.

At the time I couldn't get any 10 x 1.25 mm stainless threaded rod, or a stainless bolt with a long enough threaded portion, so I tapped it for 10 x 1.5mm and use two stainless bolts with the appropriate spring and flat washers. It's hardly noticeable, and makes shock removal and refitting a snap! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I have a pair of retaing nuts on my K5 750 that have a recess machined into the outer portion them so as the bungee strap I use to tie down my ON bag etc will not slip off.
I agree its a strange TP/MM
