I give up... tell me what tires to buy.
« on: March 23, 2014, 06:13:51 PM »
I'm wondering what you might suggest for my 71 CB750?  I'm looking to order from Amazon shortly, I have prime so shipping will be free if prime eligible... if not, well many of them ship for free anyway.  I'd like to keep it around 200 for the set, and I'm looking for something with lots of grip.  I'm tired of my front wheel sliding so easily.  I'm not as concerned with the retro look.  I've got an original set of Roadmaster TTs on right now, which look and handle great, but are old and slide a little easily.  Plus the rear started to dry rot over the winter.

So, I know this has been rehashed a number of times, but I'm more or less looking for a good value with a lot of grip that I can drop in my Amazon cart with a couple other items tonight.

I second the Avon Am26 roadriders. They are very sticky along with being a good looking tire.

I have those and like them a lot. I could not tell you how sticky they are to old (me not the tire) to push it that hard The couple of times I got into a cure to late I never felt it get loose. I have heard the avons are good as well. I like a harder compound for turing and mileage.

Looks like I'm going with the Bridgestone tires.  Just a little cheaper, so I'll give them a shot.  Next up, any suggestions on a braided steel brake line for my front brakes?

You might call over to Donnellson's on St. Charles rock rd. and price the Avons.
They may even sotck them. I have the avon road riders on my 750. I like em'.

@DH They want more for the Bridgestones so I doubt they'll be any easier on the avons.  I'll call to be sure though.

I have Michelin Pilot Activs, they are nice and sticky but still wear well.  I have over 5000 miles on my set and they are barely showing any signs of wear.  As a bonus they come in inch sizes, so you can even get the correct size.  ;D

You might have other options in US.
I ordered this for my CB750. It must be same for all 69-76, right? Replaced both hoses and the metal pipe connected to the caliper.

Tire: Size 100/90-19    120/90-18 now on my bike. Metzeler Lasertec tires since I had very good experiences during the 80's with ME99 that had good grip with controlled lost grip when forcing it before the bike jumped off the road.

The Dunlop D204s are great tires at a great price, lots of sizes for our 18" and 19" narrow rims too, I have them on my CB550 and love them.

On amazon they have the avon am26 in a 100x90x18 and a 120x90x18. Which is the preferred way to go?
