Do 750 tubes fit in 500 fork lowers?
« on: March 04, 2021, 11:48:17 AM »
I'm building this 500 chop and it has 4 over tubes. I want to get some 6 over or more tubes but they are only available for 750 it seems. just wondering if the fork tubes are compatible. The 500 fork assembly was not like others I have seen (400, 750). There was a damper? hole in the sides of the tubes. Also this threaded rod on the top of the damper tube which captures the spring.

Diameter is same, internals are different so damping may be compromised but then with 6 inch over will it make a difference? The 750 are longer than 500 standard

Why not just get 750 lowers and tubes?  Super easy to find and should be cheap.  Should work with 500 triple, wheel, and brakes.
If it works good, it looks good...

That is a good idea.

Depending on yearof 750 brakes vary a lot from 500

I was looking at these for sale locally. The set on the left are 6 over.

The brake stay tabs look different. Can you fit the 500 brake on there? Looks like they fit this type of caliper.

We just purchased a new reproduction caliper from 4into1 because the existing one was seized up. We just got this:

Nope, the left forks (6") are early 750 and use a completely different caliper bracket, swing arm and caliper plus thedisc is a different size so its not that easy

I also have a cb550 parts bike that I could use the forks off of. Their internals look "normal." and I guess finding longer tubes would be easier (maybe even compatible with the 750?).
