1973 Honda 750 turbo drag bike
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:14:41 pm »
Hello, everybody.

I'm new in here.  :)   I have a '73 turbo drag bike.  It has run as fast as 9.10 at 142 MPH.  Back in 1988, I won the NHRA Division 7 championship with it.   ;D  A friend of mine would like to buy it.  I have no idea what to sell it for.   It's in good condition.  I let this friend take it out awhile back and he ran a 9.20 with it.

Does anyone have an idea as to how much I should ask for this dinosaur?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Mark Karlsson

***UPDATE:***   I just listed this bike for sale at the classified forum.  Link here:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=136054.0

I would try to compare its condition to the several other turbo Kawasaki s and Suzuki's that have been selling lately myself.

I knew i wouldn't be any help in pricing this bike. Its 2014 and in the real world, there is not much interest in a 1973 Honda drag bike among the current contingent of racers even if it is turbo charged. Honestly, the greatest and best value will come from "old heads" on this site for its nostalgic value only.

Sorry guys, not trying to be negative, just realistic. My friends that race with the old Kaws and Zuks talk about this all the time. Shameful, but its the time we live in where a bike off the show room floor, with bolt on mods, run quicker times than the old bikes we've spent tons of money on and we can't even ride them to the local bike night.

MArk, glad your friend has an attachment to the bike and will preserve it.

FRANK: [ Years ago ]  When a PRO-MOD ran 177mph at 7.70 at NORWALK IDBA I think the guys name was KRUSE = WE STOOD THEIR IN DISBELIEF !!!!  Now a dayz JT TEASLEY runs 212mph on a street bike no bars at 72" or less. With that turbo bike running 9:10 old school is not the bike that young racers want, but would be nice for COBRA BILL to do burn outs with in the water box at a event and run 10's maybe.  If he ran 9:10 at SACRAMENTO [ He's from NAPA ] then at a good track like NORWALK it would run 8:60-8:90. My son lives in LIVERMORE Calif. and we been to that track many times ,  AVERAGE TO SAY THE LEAST, sorry JD..... and if you do not know who JD is you never been to SACRAMENTO RACEWAY PARK.

I saw this bike run, probably at Sacramento around 1990, the pressurized fuel tank and oversize compressor mod I remember. The 9.10@142 sounds right. I spoke with the owner and had some notes on it, looking for clues on why these things just wouldn't run the mph. He was hesitant to discuss the turbo mod though...

Welcome Mark!! We have a saying here: Pictures (and time slips) or it didn't happen. ;D

Well, I'm trying to learn how to post pics in here.  If this one goes through, it's an old scanned in pic of a Sears Point time slip from 2000.   And see my latest UPDATE to this post.  :)

Thanks!

Bill:  I don't have many time slips left (see pic in my other reply below).   I think you're the one I spoke to the other day on the phone.  :)  Let me know how much you're willing to pay for the three golden rods.  My friend's wife wouldn't cut free with the cash to buy the bike.  If you're interested, I just listed my ad in the bikes for sale classifieds forum in here.  I only posted one pic there, but here are two more (see attachments).

Thanks!
