mom's 72 cb350g
« on: March 26, 2014, 09:07:19 AM »
hey guys/gals 5 yrs ago I finally got my hands on my moms green 72 cb350 that she has had since new 17143mi. its been through a few family members from Ontario to Nova Scotia and beat pretty good so ive decided to do a complete resto on it. This is my first resto and I'd like to thank everybody on this forum for documenting their builds that I have learned from. So far this is what's been done.

rebuilt the motor
      -new seals/gaskets/bearings/bushings
      -1st over piston/rings
      -replaced 1 bent exhaust valve
      -new cam chain tensioner/roller
      -neutral switch
-had the cases blasted and left raw
      -pc frame and etc....
      -cables
      -rubber
-ceramic coated hubs/headers with repop mufflers
      -rebuilt carbs
-repainted the tins oem green with metal flake :)
-lots of new nut/bolts/washers from cmsnl

Questions I have,

I just finished rewire/repair the harness and I would like to know where it is layed out on the frame, it just doesn't look right and I don't have any pics.

I have a 3" ground wire with a washer on each end, not sure but I think it mounts from speedo to tach?

I cant figure out how the kick starter and return spring go back together with new ball and internal spring if found (cant find any info or replacement for the two)

Mods I'm trying,

-rear grab bar from (550 I think)
  -rear signal stem relocation
  -smaller rear break light
-redo the seat (foam shave or compress)

pics to follow...

Looks like a nice project for you and to keep it in the family is great. If you have trouble finding info or parts you can also check www.hondatwins.net  Lots of good guys there with parts and expertise.

I think that wire goes from  the handlebar mount to a frame ground.
Without it your handlebars may not ground correctly, and the switches may not work.

From part #13/14 in the picture, at the bottom.
It grounds part #3, which grounds the handlebars so your switches work.
Make sure there's no paint where the bars meet #3.
The other end goes to any nearby ground - the existing curves in the wire may give you a clue.

I think that wire goes from  the handlebar mount to a frame ground.
Without it your handlebars may not ground correctly, and the switches may not work.

That green ground strap(I agree tbp)goes on the bottom of the handlebar(dog bone)mount nut where it tightens down, then bolts to your top triple.I agree that you should scrape paint off of the top triple clamp where it clamps the fork tube for a solid ground.

grcamna2-thanks for the input! I have removed powder and sanded every contact point on the bike, cleaned and used dielectric grease on every connection. the last thing I want is to chase grounding issues or ANY issue!

been awhile, life in the way and I suck at posting. ive been doing the little things like cables, carbs, exhaust.... polishing signal lenses and a nice little tail light I found. hope to modify the two brackets so it looks narrower, the stock tail is just to big for this 350 IMO and my mom is ok with it so that's good.

ill post some pics of it along with the signals. I do have a question regarding the exhaust pipe joint collars and their orientation for install maybe some one could chime in.

thanks for looking

can any body tell me if I can change out the 6v bulb in the tail I want to use for a 12v? they are both duel filament. I suspect the 12v would get hotter.

Yes, you can just swap out the bulb. Wires is wires :)
