How often do you change your oil?
« on: March 26, 2014, 12:59:03 PM »
Hello
Just wondering how often some of you guys change your oil.
I've been doing mine on my CB750 every 2500km.

Not much over 1000 miles with regular oil. Filter every time

1000mi + a new filter, and regular oil.
Might be a little overkill, but its an easy task.

1,500 on the dot + new filter. Also make sure to check chain tension, tire pressure, and chain lube while doing it (and if I feel the need to check before 1,500).

WOW really often!
I traveled Sweden-Spain-Sweden without changing oil. About 6000km's. Plus 3 other holidays with similar distances. Changing oil on tour was not an option. None of my friends touring with their bikes changed oil during the holiday down to the Mediterranean Sea and back.
Usually fill 0.5-1L oil. Speed mostly 140-200km/h with bike fully loaded, 2 persons + luggage.

Why so short oil interval?  For me is 5000-8000km OK to drive between the oil + filter changes.
Double as often than my car that get oil change relatively often.

These days on the CB750F, oil every 3000 miles, filter every other oil change. That is with Spectro conventional oil. The CBR1000F gets changed every 5000 miles or so, been using Mobil 1 in that for the last few years. About the same for the R100GSPD.

I don't know, why not I guess? It doesn't cost much and it can't hurt. I know it's overkill, but it's an old bike and I guess better be safe than sorry. A lot of the times it also coincides when I switch from 10w40 to 20w50 during the season changes.

I'm a bit slow sometimes but now it makes perfect sense.

Per owner's manual, every 3 months or 1500miles whichever comes first.

In the early days I did it every 1000 miles with standard motor oil.  These days, once a year, as none of the bikes get a lot of miles on them, anymore.  Still, I use semi synthetic or JASO compliant.

I know someone is going to tout modern oil superiority.  But, until you've done oil analysis to prove it as safe, you are just guessing and trusting to hope.  These old bikes are harder on oil than modern water cooled bikes.

mate that's not a problem, that's good fun.  I don't think you will find anyone here that thinks you have anything but a "good problem"

Now I know it's not a completion but if it were, you would be up there on the leaders board.

Have a good one

Around the 3000-5000km mark, depends if the weather is good or crappy when I get near the 3000k mark.

It totally depends on season and riding miles, 1000 miles is optimal, if it starts shifting hard then it's automatically time. One week I rode 1300 miles I think that's OK too.
