Topic: What does the adjustment bolt at bottom of clutch cover do?

Been having some trouble with my clutch grabbing when my cb550 76 is hot lately. Trying to stab it from all angles. Clutch plates are in good shape, cable is new, etc.  Wondering what the bolt at the bottom exterior of the clutch cover does. I know it adjusts the rod that engages/disengages the clutch, but what happens if I adjust it in/out?

That screw is the first thing in the clutch adjustment procedure. If it isn't set properly you will never get a good lever. Best to aquaint yourself with the manual, it explains it better than I could.

Bad clutch adjustment would cause this. Whether it is at the handlebar, the mid-cable or the adjuster on the casing. You need to work from the bottom up. Yes read the manual.

that primary adjustment isnt terribly critical,your supposed to have the cable slackened of and with upward thumb pressure on the lever adjust the screw untill those two dots line up,then re-adjust the cable to fine tune it or to how you like it,often youll need to adjust the primary again on an older or used clutch to get it to release properly or to not slip and the dots wont be lined up once its sorted,counter clockwise on the screw gives less bite and more slip and starts the disengagement sooner and visa versa,counter clockwise aids release if you have a grabby cold clutch,clockwise might help if its slipping,if you cant get a happy medium youll need new friction plates and deglaze the steels,also check the baskets end float.

Strange thing is that the clutch isn't slipping, in fact it's quite the opposite. The clutch will engage smoothly but only until the bike gets hot, then the clutch begins to grab as if multiple plates are engaging at once. It makes the bike an absolute chore to ride and pisses me off smartly. The hotter the bike gets, the worse it grabs. Getting off the line at stop lights in first gear is unpleasant and takes a delicate touch, to put it mildly. The problem has persisted over two clutches, as I replaced the entire basket, including all plates a while ago. It's very strange and I'm not sure what to make of it.
Any ideas?

if its an old cable it might need replacing,try lubing it,they should run so free as to have minimal friction,unless its routed wrongly?

both push and pull cables were replaced a few months ago, so they should be fine. pretty sure routing's good, no hard turns.  how do you get lube through the cable? is there a trick?

?the clutch only has one cable,the throttle has push/pull cables?

Of sorry, was picturing the wrong thing in my head. The clutch cable was replaced at the same time, did them all in one day.
