Tyler,
What is the clutch gasket issue w/ the 350F ?

She's just leaking from the gasket, must not have gotten a good seat on the seal.

What is a shifter rod?   Rather than guess, I'd suggest you do a little research...

By shifter rod I meant the mechanism that engages the shift, I have being doing tons of reading on here and guys referred to them as that or the like.  Only issue is none can get to the bottom and find a fix....

Does anyone know what it means to have the transmission undercut?  A member referred to that as being a fix.

I bet with a few mods, a 750 could be made to fit!

Well, maybe more than a few -- widening and bolstering the frame.  I've been a little bummed about the lack of grunt in my stock 550 motor.  I was checking out Paulage's 718 CB650 motor dropped into a 550 frame.  Tempting!

Guys really think a 550 motor is worth it?  Anyone know what mods have to be done to make it fit??  and do you need 550 carbs as well?

Clutch cable moves from left side to right, and the right rear, upper hangar bracket changes to the 550 model. Carbs are same.

I think McWilliams (Delaware) may have a good running spare motor, either a 500 or 550, I don't recall. Either way, they're both good power plants. Yes, a 550 is stronger, and a 650 too, but at the end of the day, why pump up a 40 year old bike that you've restored to be a white knuckled ride?

Because it's fun!!  ;D

It's just wishful vicarious thinking.   ;D

I really like my little green 550, but I wish it had more grunt.  Now, I wonder if my future 550 build will house a 550 engine or a 650 engine bored out to 718cc!

Even if you go hog-wild with a 718 in 550 frame, it will still not make as much power as a properly tuned 750 bored/ported 836cc.  As the old saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement.  That said, given the significant weight difference between the 750 and 550 (nearly 90 lbs), a properly tuned 718 might get you close to the overal performance of a 836 package, and be much more nimble.  Tempting, tempting, tempting!!

Ok.  End of threadjack!

I may be mistaken, but I think there are certain years 650's that were rated higher horsepower than certain years 750's

HAHAHA youth my friend youth, woke up and hit it hard with a 11 shift at the boat yard and tomorrow I am off the Bahamas!  But I won't be thinking of how sad all this nonsense with the 500 makes me, all I want to do is ride her, and she just won't come out of 2nd gear, seems simple enough, but oh so frustrating

Havnt been updating lately guys, my new job has really taken off and keeps me VERY busy.  Im on vacation right now, brought my little 350F along and its a blast to ride around the beach scene!  But just to let everyone know, when I get home something big is in store.  Now I won't give anything away, but lets just say it has to do with a cb550. Or two.....or 3 ;D ;D

Well I just finalized the deal, so I guess Ill let you all in on my plans!  To make a long story short a early 550 showed up on a trailer at the Marina I work at, tucked away amongst the old boats in the back where none ever goes, I put 2 notes on it and the trailer and it sat for 2 weeks, before it disappeared and I got phone call from the owners.  Turns out a nice young guy and his dad have been collecting 550's for a few years now and he was transporting one when complications forced him to leave it there, as he is a member of the marina.

His plans for there collection was for them to go right to Craigslist but he said I could come look around first.  Most of his bikes are here in Maryland and the rest are in Jersey.  I told him I wasn't looking for a show piece since my 500 is pretty good looking besides the engine and he told me he has a old 550 with a good engine I could take home for a few hundred.  I jumped on it.  While we were talking I asked if he was interested to get rid of the 550 that I saw at my job on his trailer.  He gave me a good price, and I countered by joining the two bikes and offering a fair deal.  He says he will take it and I can come get them next week.  I had pictures of the bike he left, but I broke my phone and had to get a new one, thus loosing the picture.  The 550 looked complete, titled,  solid motor and frame, rusty 4into1, ape hanger bars, perfect original seat and two rims which I need.

My plans are to see if I could get the 550 I'v seen running as is, then swap the tank side covers and other needed parts and make one very solid cruiser using parts from both bikes. Or just swap the 550 engine in my 500.    But remember the first 550 he offered me?  Well I plan to take the engine and other parts from that bike, and build a little cafe racer on either the 500 or 550 platform using parts from all 3 bikes....Building a true parts bike, or bike made from all the leftovers.  I have never had a cafe racer but I would like to make a decent little racer.

A little hard to follow, but Basically I'm going to have 3 bikes to work with this winter which I'm very excited about.  My little shop is going to be going full throttle!  I plan to make another thread following this project and I will have pictures for sure!  Most likely looking at at-least one engine rebuild so I will need help with that guys, I have never fully dissembled one of these before, so I'll need your expertise!  Let me know what you guys think of this plan!  Really excited and can't wait to get started tearing down!
