Greetings from the Midwest.
It all started 7 years ago when I decided I wanted to learn how to fix an old 79 Yamaha Champ that I bought for dirt cheap because it didn't run. I have never worked on motors, but was always interested. The little 50cc treated me well for a couple of years. I sold it and started looking for something a little bigger and something I could get a motorcycle license with. I thought it would be romantic to find a non-running bike, do some stuff to it and take it all around Wisconsin.
Enter Ginger, the 1971 CB350. Rebuilt the carbs, installed new mufflers, did a tuneup, bought a new battery and we were good to go. I remember the first time I started her up and realized she was no 50cc scooter. She was a serious machine which I needed to completely understand and respect. I got my license with her and put a lot of miles on her all around Wisconsin. I had to let her go...circumstances beyond my control (not entirely true). Missed her badly, so went looking for something a little bigger. I set my sights beyond Wisconsin and began the search for my new girl.
I purchased a CB750K7 last fall and almost have it completely torn down. I am feeling pretty ambitious, wanting to repaint everything and learn how this thing works. It has 60,000 miles on it, and at the very least, I am going to clean it up nice with a paint job, rewire it, find some of the missing parts, and take it out west. I think the most difficult part for me will be messing with the motor. I think I could handle a top end rebuild myself, but an entire rebuild might be a little out of my league. I am willing to attempt it however.
I found this forum to be an amazing resource for what I am trying to do, so I figured I should join. I know I am going to need a lot of guidance and advice for this undertaking. Do I need to do everything to this bike that I am about to? Probably not, but sometimes I just do things for better understanding of how it works.
That's where I am at.
Thanks for providing this resource. I look forward to being part of the community.
Be well.
