CB 750 Charging When cold but not when hot?
« on: March 31, 2014, 10:16:00 AM »
Hi guys
I have a small issue with a cb 750 sohc F2, 1978.
when the bike is cold, it charges at 14.5 volts from 3000rpm up, but when its been out running for about 20 miles or more, the voltage at 3000 rpm drops to about 13.0.It does not have the standard regulator/rectifier, but a finned combined one. IS this normal or something amiss?
Many thanks for any advice

the slight drop off could be its replaced what it used to start the bike.  with nothing on to run, like an electronic ignition or high output coils, it will generate slightly more than it uses, so as long its charging above 12.6 you ought to be good to go.  otherwise, be checking all your connections for cleanliness.
