I'll never forget these two things that my father taught me... Measure twice and cut once, and after I had thought I had done the former, he would tell me "you cut that three times, and its still too short"  :)

yeah, your personal safety is important
used to get told by the old guys in the workshop "wear your glasses and earplugs" being young and bulletproof i didnt, 20 years later i wish i had........
measure twice, cut once
your fingers and eyes WONT grow back
metal is harder than you are, give it some respect
and most importantly
if in doubt ASK
all words of wisdom, and now i know it
