CB400F Electrics

I'm wanting to be able to start my CB400F with just the kick starter, right now I don't need any lights or switches just want to be able to get it to run. As I have very little understanding of electrical's I was wondering if anyone could tell me all the parts I need to get it to simply run? Thanks in advance

on the left is a picture of the switches (interactive) press the red arrow to move to the page. to start shut off everything but the coils.

That should give you an idea, post more info and maybe a few pictures of what your looking at people could be more exact?

Just to start up you only need voltage to the coils, that would be at the black and wire wires.  Also, the blue and yellow point wires need to be hooked up....Larry

This mean the run switch is one of the missing parts?

 I'd disconnect +,  then the coils, then just jump + to the coils and try to run of the battery.
on oldmanhonda your switches should look like this, sometimes seeing less of the big picture makes it easy to sort out.

Thanks for all the replies guys. So i tried connecting the battery directly to the coils with alligator clips and then tried push starting it down a steep hill. It made a loud noise but then just died when it slowed down?

did you try the jumped connections with the Starter button, or only by jump-starting it? And, is the battery completely good and charged?

I only tried it by push starting it with the battery connected to the coils with alligator clips. the battery is good and charged, its making a spark and its grounded to the frame.

how would you wire the alligator clips to the starter?

sorry if im being very ignorant

if your making spark I'd start checking for fuel, petcock position, check if bowls are filling. Do the whole bit to make sure your getting fuel.

To the Original Poster: You might be able to get better responses if you step back a bit and let everyone know what you're trying to accomplish and what you're working with.

Clearly you're trying to see if the engine will run. But you're trying to do it by hot-wiring the bike. Why? Is the wiring harness burnt, chopped or ruined? Do you not have the key? Is you're battery charged? What is the (electrical) reason that you're trying to hotwire the bike?

Then there's the question of fuel. Are your carbs really clean? Gas tank rusty? Filters clogged? Fresh gas? Petcock work? Even if you have spark, it's not going to do anything to try and push start a bike that doesn't have fuel.

Give some context and the generous members of the forum will help you out.
