gas tank with oil tank combined
« on: March 31, 2014, 02:31:29 PM »
I recently saw this on ebay and was wondering, what would be the pros and cons of having the gas tank and oil tank combined and was this a stock item? Is it just a space saver? I never saw one before.

Oil gets hot, causes gas to get hot. Hot gas expands. Not a problem if you have room in the tank, otherwise the tank leaks out the vent hole in the cap. Can ruin your paint job.  Don't think a combined tank for oil and gas would be smart move for a 750.  Would imagine chopper guys might like that or a cafe racer...

They are just trying to open up space on the bike for cosmetic reasons, only see disadvantages from my perspective on it.

I could see it if the tank was aluminum and the oil tank in front to aid cooling but the hot oil between your legs?! I don't want it

You would have the extra weight of the oil ,tank and hoses located up high raising the center of gravity.

Chopper builders would not do that.

My favorite is hiding the oil tank in the seat.  Great way to stay warm in the winter months, or fry your arse in the summer.

Yeah. Seems like a strange idea to me. I don't think I would want that concentrated heat, there of all places. I grille my sausage on the barbecue, thank you very much.  ;)
