Can't find a grab bar
« on: April 03, 2014, 10:24:10 AM »
So I'm doing a lot with replacement parts on my rebuild - a lot with reproductions or good ebay finds. A huge weak link right now is my grab bar. It's showing its 40 years (1975 CB750k) and it's something someone should have made new somewhere. Like Z1 Parts or something like that. I'd love a shiny new grab bar. Anyone have any source ideas? Thanks.

I just got lucky last week and bought a minty 74 grab rail with all the rubber bits, metal clam brackets and turn signals etc. from a given up bobber build. Bobber and chopper guys can be your friends if you ask around. E-bay is about it other than that. Getting the grab bar is just half the deal though if you are doing a proper resto as the other signal mounting items are no longer made either. If you find a nice complete set-up ponie up the dollars and buy it  ;)

Another option is to rechrome the old grab bar.  I have done this on some parts that were sound but pitted or discolored.  So far its been great.  Probably be around $100 at Browns Plating. 5 to 7 days process

Here is one fresh to the market listed as a 73 but the blinkers are 75-76. If the turn signal mounting hdware etc is correct it may be worth asking him if he has a "buy it now" These usually clean up well if they have not been outdoors for years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Honda-CB750-Grab-Bar-and-Rear-Signal-Lights-/351040219601?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51bba0a9d1&vxp=mtr

Next rechrome for me is the front fender.  The silencer is there now.  I have not had much luck buying like new chrome items on the web.

My point is buy a complete set up or your next big challenge will be finding all the other little bits to go with the grab bar  ;)
