My cousin was born with a Congenital Heart Defect... :/
« on: October 26, 2009, 10:34:31 PM »
My cousin Griffin was born with a heart defect that required open-heart surgery when he was only 6 weeks old. He was unconscious on a table for 4 days with his chest wide open to allow swelling to subside. He's doing better now but will be facing another surgery in the near future. I don't exactly know what all they had to do but I do know it was extremely serious. We've all been praying for him to pull through the ordeal and would like for you to do the same. Thanks, all.

I had a schoolmate in elementary school, that had a hole in his heart (back in the 50's) and he had several surgeries, managing to make it until his high school days before he eventually died. Bobby Warner was his name. He was SO outgoing and wanted so much to be in athletics, but was unable to do so because of this problem. So sad. :(

With that being said, there is so much technology now days and they just seem to be learning to do so much more everyday that goes by. I Pray that this little MAN will make it to a very long life and prosper well. ;)

it's amazing; i understand some surgery can even be done while still in the womb.

Pinhead,
I will sure keep your cousin in my thoughts and prayers.

It sounds as if he may have a hypoplastic left heart or Tetralogy of Fallot. Not many congenital heart defects require multiple surgeries. I hope all goes well.

We'll be praying for him.

I don't know the details in this case, but we fly a fair amount of new babies to specialty heart surgeries.  From what I know, the surgeries are often successful, and the kids have good outcomes and go on to have good lives.  So, don't take it all lightly; but pray with some real hope!   :)

Thanks everyone. Not exactly sure when the next surgery is but it sounds like he's doing a lot better so far.

That's such a good sign and with the technology that they have today, surgeries have come SO FAR AND STILL improving! Prayers are still coming on this as well, for him AND your family. ;)
