75 CB750 SS Harness/Starter Issues (all new evur'thing)
« on: June 12, 2015, 11:47:34 AM »
i've posted a few times about my electrical situation, (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,148417.0.html)

 To recap:

Replaced original harness with a NEW one from vintagecb750.com. Engineer friend tested the signal all around and found the harness working.

Purchased a starter switch assembly (also from vintagecb750.com) but ordered a 77 instead of a 75. Forum members here indicated only the ends of the wires, where they connect to the harness, were different. I removed the white plastic clip and ended up with:

I ended up stripping the ends and attaching salvaged but proper diameter/shape male pieces from the old harness, like so:

(I am not sure if they're all attached in that photo, but they were by the time we started testing.

I intended to install a simple switch in place of the ignition, as the original key-insert-ignition was shot and I didn't want to replace it. Also, it would be stored inside, so why bother? Here are the ignition wires with their ends stripped and attached to a position switch. The original ignition had parking lights i dont need, etc, so i've deduced from the wiring diagram that I can just put the red and three brown on one and the black on the other, like so.

I am not sure if this is correct, as I am not amazing with electrical. It seemed like a safe assumption. Correct me?

The starter tries to turn over if hotwired, even with the old harness. The battery is solid. I cannot get the starter to try turning over with the setup as I've explained.

Thoughts?

I have no clue if that is correct but I'm pretty sure I have a 550f-ignition w key. I would think it is the same as a 750.  If you want it's yours for free. May save you some headache... also you have a black loose wire under your coils.

I took that third picture to indicate how i'd salvaged then tips from another loom. i believe when we last tried the bike everything was as it should have been, hooked up wise.

anyone know if my treatment of the ignition switch makes sense?

I've already chopped the ignition wires for the switch, which seems like, if hooked up properly,  shouldn't cause much of a headache.
