New to the Fours, but not to old Hondas
« on: March 27, 2014, 06:17:57 PM »
Hi everyone. Let me first start off by saying that this site is a wealth of knowledge and will come in handy as I get further in to my project(s).

Alright, a little about me. I got my first Honda when I was 10 (I'm 25 now) and have been obsessed since. I love just finding them and fixing them up. I find so much joy in just bringing back something from the dead.

Anyways, I recently bought my first Four so I have a lot to learn. I've pretty much mastered the Ct70's, Cb125's, and Cb200's, so I guess a Four was the next step in my progression.

Here it is, got it off of Craigslist this week. It was just TOO good of a deal to pass up. Has sat in a shed for the last 4-5 years and is in impressive shape. Hasn't been registered since 1982. Needs very little. A new speedometer, a battery, probably new coils, a new HI LO switch, a flasher, and a cleaned tank. Everything else works great on it. Electronics all light up and work, motor is free, and the carbs look like they've never see the open road. Calipers are also froze up, so I'll probably do the dual piston swap I've been reading all about. I'll probably end up fixing it and selling it to buy more to fix and sell. It's just what I do lol

And here are a few of my other projects from the last two or so years.

Welcome, your going to fit in right here just fine. 750 looks to be in pretty decent shape, nice work on the rest of the herd too!

Thanks a lot! I've been busy ordering parts and have almost everything on order. Got the tank soaking in vinegar right now. Did not know about the overflow until it was too late. Oops.

I'm hoping once my new coils come in she'll fire right up.

Welcome! Youll learn a lot dealing with those brakes. That's how I got started bringing them back to life and selling them.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Welcome.  As you know, these old Hondas are easy to work on.
I'd drop the float bowls and see what the carbs look like inside.
Clean rebuilt carbs are the single most important thing to a good running bike.

Clean rebuilt carbs are the single most important thing to a good running bike.

I did that on Sunday and for the most part, 1 and 2 weren't getting any fuel but 3 and 4 were so I took it all apart. 1 and 2 were spotless and 3 and 4 had some build up and gunk in them. Cleaned out the little pump and found a clogged port. Now everything is getting fuel but I think the coils aren't in the right order so it's not firing. New coils should be in any day so I'll mess with it then. I have a thread in the project log that I hope you check out. I'm having some choke issues and I think you might be able to help Stev-o

When you get around to doing the dual piston caliper swap let me know and I can send you a list of mounts and calipers that will bolt right up. Compiled it when I did the swap on the blue one in my avatar.

I think I have that list. It was posted in that one big topic right? I'm pretty sure the calipers were on the list but I do not think the brackets were.

Most likely that's the one. The first two sections are the brackets and the second two were the calipers I believe.

I believe I opted for the VT1100c setup.

Doesn't look like the brackets will work. I'm going to hit up a local salvage yard this weekend and try my luck there.
