750 SOHC Regulator/Rectifier ?
« on: May 27, 2014, 06:54:32 AM »

It's time to sort the electrics, unfortunately I'm rubbish at this sort of thing, I am fitting a combined regulator rectifier, the rectifier side of things seems simple enough, it just plugs in and the wires match up colour for colour in the plugs, but on the new unit I have just a black and a white wire for the regulator, the original regulator has 3 wires, black, white and green, I think that the new unit should be connected black to black and white to white with the green wire just being ignored/not used, is this correct?, sorry if this is a dumb question but electrics are a mystery to me!, any help much appreciated, cheers Mark.

PS the new unit was supplied by Brooks barn and is a 30amp, 7 wire, 3 phase regulator/rectifier, SMR-09

I'm thinking this unit is grounded to the case. If that's true the r/r will have to be mounted to the frame. Wait for another sohc'er chime in.

Thanks, I thought maybe the green wire coming out of the unit to the plug was a ground that the rectifier and regulator parts of the unit share?.

Thanks, ok so I don't need to do anything with the green wire on the loom, just leave it disconnected?

I am doing the same thing on my 1975 CB750F . My rectifier gets hot and it melts the connectors. I have a 1980 cm400 rectifier/regulator, and I want to give it a try.

So, the 3 yellow / red/ green wires  from new rectifier/regulator connect to 3 yellow /red/ green wires from the harness.
The black wire  from new rectifier/regulator goes to black wire from old regulator.
The green wire from old regulator will connect to nothing.
How about the white wire from the old regulator?

Did I get some wiring right?

Thanks

It all depend on what type of system you have. Permanent magnet or field control magnet.  The field is controlled by the regulator.  The yellows are easy it's the other two wires things become sketchy
