Evan, yes the dampner pot is filled with between 30k and 50k silicone oil.

I can't view the pics to see what you have posted, my device problem with outdated browser, so, I will take a look after a while, gotta fininsh up adjusting PTO on mower and greasing the chassis before dropping thit to pull the wheels and repack the  bearings.
Sharpen inga few blades  will wait until tomorrow...

Rhonda had an interesting afternoon yesterday.

As some may recall my ignition switch has been flaky as of late. First tumbler pin popped out so I could sometimes insert the key, turn ignition on, then remove the key. I was just waiting for it to fail so last week I ordered a new Honda ignition/lock key set.

Well on the ride back to work from lunch the bike died at an intersection. Kaput. Pulled over to a parking lot. Started fiddling with the keyswitch to make sure that wasn't the issue, and it got stuck in the lights only setting. Fark. So I decided to unhook the battery and lo and behold the negative battery cable bolt was loose. That's what had killed the bike, and I forked with it for nothing and now I'm stranded an hour from home.

Or so I though!

I checked my phone to see where my newly-ordered ignition set was. When I had checked that morning it hadn't updated and it was still on the other side of the country. BUT. HOORAY it was out for delivery. Problem: I'm at work. Wife is out running errands with the baby.

I called her and begged and pleaded for her to drop everything and run home for the postman. Turns out when she got home he had JUST finished writing the missed delivery notice and was about to leave our house. Talk about perfect timing.

So she then drove out to meet me at work with my new Honda parts. I managed to push the bike back to work and still see all my afternoon patients, albeit SOAKED in sweat from pushing it back to work in 27C heat. Once the patients were seen I was able to remove the old switch, reconnect the battery, and off I went.

Wife saves the day!

Rhonda is like new again. Now I just have to put in the seat latch and then it'll be one key for the bike and I'll be able to keep a spare at home.

Whew. What a day it was. Now to get something for the wife to say thanks.

Evan,  Sorry to see this...  I hope they can get it fixed in a hurry.   Did the tank take a hit too?  People are jerks anymore.  I wouldn't be surprised to see some people around here knock one over and keep going.
Hope your insurance stands behind you and makes them fix it and fix it right.  Does Yamiya make a blue tank set?  Might be cheaper than fixing.
Being in Canada you pay through the nose for your bike insurance to begin with, or at least Ontario and some other areas in the East do...  You would think it was a Ferrari or some high priced sports car hearing some of the quotes.

I'm going to be doing 150 miles a day very soon...the miles are going to rack up fast.
Bike has motor out and rear case removed (CX500) to do cam chain & stator and water pump seal/mechanical seal, and starter clutch parts...  The kludge of the PO is very irritating... Ujoint on the driveshaft was pretty dry when I pulled it earlier. PO and PPO apparently didn't take good care of that... They did have the rear splines and drive pumpkin greased, just not with 60% moly... Would love to change over to Krytox but 2 ounces is $50-65 depending on which formula you use.  It is a lifetime lube, it is that amazing... reduces gear heat by up to 100-150F in some studies/tests they showed that.  NASCAR drivers love it.

I hope it is a speedy recovery.
Times like this you need that 2nd bike, or one you can borrow from a buddy. Too bad they don't have rental coverage on bikes, eh? Who could afford it if they did...

The adjuster was really scratching his head as a lot of the damaged parts are NLA. Chris ended up doing some research finding parts where available and shared the info with the adjuster, they cut him a check, he repaired it himself and come out ahead.

I suggest you doing the same.

I suggest you doing the same.

This is likely what will happen. Hopefully they don't see a huge bill and try to write it off.

Thankfully the company I am with is known for being friendly to motorcycles. They are a major sponsor of several local/nationally sanctioned charity rides.

I'm going to start with a list, and tell them I can do the work myself.

Find out if you can navigate the hoops of retitling after inspections with salvaged title...and insure it.  If so, you don't plan to sell Rhonda, then buy it back and put it back on road or buy another frame and tank and other parts to rebuild on a different frame that can be legal.  Or replace parts and pickup a backup bike for Rhonda...

Buying back you bike if it's totaled can be a good option, especially if they are undervaluing it and it has good usable parts.  It your title is salvaged, you should get another title frame and swap over your parts.  It will never hold the same value.

If you can arrange to drag the Insurance Adjuster and the culprit across the border, I'd be all too happy to "learn them" the American method of doing what's right by you  ;)

Sorry to hear that Evan.  Go take possession of the bike if it is not at your house get it there.  Being out of your control it can go get crushed or just disappear by some other insurance company mechanism that kicks into gear unknowingly by the guy who is dealing with it on the claim...

Here in TN they will not allow you to consider rebuilding with salvage title any car over 10 years old.  I think there is also a mileage. My mother lost her '00 Subaru Outback LL Bean wagon to another driver pulling out on her at a red light causing the airbags to deploy.  Both front airbags cost alone totalled the car, they gave her over 4k for it as it was a total cream puff condition immaculate inside and out.

And that's the worst of it. It is rideable. It isn't destroyed.

Time for a vacation into Maine or points further south into the US to pick up a replacement frame shipped there so you can be a transplant surgeon.  Then Rhonda's souls and components can get a new skeleton and tank, etc for the money they are going to give you.

Sad thing is the frame is still good as are most of the other things as you say...
Now, fight to get a good price for her as you will need to be adequately compensated to be as if you would need to buy another bike.
You have a winter project now, like it or not.

The old frame could be a track bike frame, they do not need titled.

Time to find out the hoops for importing a frame from the US into Canada.  Surely someone knows someone in Maine or other nearby state to serve as a shipment point for a frame into a location you can reach in a mini vacation.  Someone posted a VIN lookup recently to check if you can buy a frame and have it reach.
