fork seal and progressive spring install cb550 1975

Quick questions on this install.

Should the seal be driven down into the lower fork until it seats on the ledge (like you would do for a bearing race) or just until it it below the lip that holds the retainer ?

If I drive it to the bottom ledge, there will be a small gap between top of seal and the retainer ring

I've driven it down to the step both times I've done them with no issues.

Either way works. As long as the retainer can get in there, you are good.

Check the fiche to see theres a backup washer between the seal and retaining clip. Not sure if there is on 550s but on early 750's there is and you definitely need that to close the space.
