I wanted to post up todays work though so here we go

Finally got a break from work so I could work on the bike. Today was just a throw it together for a mock up day. I needed to get it on its wheels so I can find the position for my rear sets and get my seat height.

Gotta tell ya the diet this thing went on really changed it. Even without tires and just stationary it feels a ton lighter and more nimble. I really can't wait to ride it.

Anyway onto the part you really care about, the pics.

Thanks and yes the seat is kinda long, but its untrimmed right now and I am 6'2" so I need the extra space lol

Ok so finally an update! Got the tail hoop and block off plate on today, also spent like 6 hours cleaning the motor today but it still has a lot to go so no pics yet, maybe tomorrow.

Also tomorrow I am droppingnoff the wheels to get trued, mounted and balanced.

Today was day 2 or cleaning the motor, I got it a lot....cleaner?.....I dunno I'm not completely happy with it but short of soda blasting it really isn't gonna get much cleaner. Still some to go once I get it back off the engine stand but I guess it will do for now.

Also trimmed the seat a little, now it looks less goofy. Still has some trimming and fitting to do as well.

Not gonna soda blast because I'm really trying to get itmon the road ASAP and I don't want to tear it all down just yet.

Here is a pic of ky hot rod. We call it Frankenstein because its a 1941 Chevy cab and hood, whats left, and a hand built chassis, Cadillac 500 engine, dodge grill shell, forklift radiator, and various other parts lol

How about a looooooong overdue update! I kinda took the summer off and rode the crap out of my sv650, but its winter and I am back on track and trying to finish this thing this winter.

Today I built my rear set mounts which are a shameless ripoff in design from cognito moto

First made a pattern and mock up, dig those sexy tarozzi rear sets

Transfered the pattern to aluminum and made rough cut outs

Then drilled small holes and bolted the two pieces together for the next step

Next is a lot of time on a grinder and some air tools to make the two pieces an exact match.

Here they are in a more finished product mock up.

I also finished fixing a dent in my tank and its ready primer

And considering you have an accomplished in house welder I'm also hoping you installed a frame kit.

I am assuming you mean speedweek and yes I will be there. I never miss it if possible. I am 35 and have probably been out 25 of those lol

All safety is covered as well and my pops is a great welder. Everything else is all me though trying to convert hot rod building knowledge into bike building.

I totally forgot to do an update post from last week, so here we go.

First tore it back down to pieces

Then immediately put it back together for mock up. Had to make sure everything missed and fit. I am liking the look so far.

More shameless rip off as I started mocking up the oil tank. Going to do a neat little filler nozzle. More on that later.

So been making my seat pan for the past few weeks. Work was slow with Christmas and all that but here she is ready for foam.

Started with a paper pattern and transferred that to steel. I have never done any of this before so it looks kinda rough bit the finished product is pretty cool.

These were the chosen tools of the trade.

I slowly worked the steel around until it matched the curve of the tank.

Then I had to work it so that it tapered down to meet the frame rails.

It ended up fitting pretty nice.

Had to add a couple filler pieces next to the tank

Then trimmed everything up and added a few mounting studs in the back

It came out pretty awesome now i need to get the foam on it and sculpted and then off for leather work.

I will be making the shape i want totally out of foam and then covering in leather. To secure the front I have been considering a few options but haven't decided just yet. I will show it when I do.

Ok so finally got back to working on the seat. I got the foam all on it and sculpted it. Man what a mess and a lot of work.

These are the tabs I came up with to mount the seat at the front.

Carved out a spot for the hump in the front of the tank

Gave it some paint

Heavy duty contact cement and some tape and weight did the trick.

Now its time to get busy carving.

Here is the finished product ready for some leather.

A few tips.
Get an electric carving knife makes quick work of big cuts.

Make sure you stay level with those cuts. Mine wandered in one place and I had to put in a repair.

Get close with the knife but finish with a grinder. You can really shape and fine tune with the grinder.

Seats like this cost like $200 or more.

Mine was free 99. Made from stuff we had laying around and some time.

One thing I am learning from all this is I have never done any of it. But iI don't let it stop me I just jump in and give it hell. I love it

I built a seat from scratch. My tip to you is dont wear a fleece while cutting foam with that electric knife. The fleece is like velcro to the little bits haha. Lookin good.
