XPost from ADVRider - Stranded in flagstaff
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:24:26 PM »
My riding partners post from the CX forums:

Hey guys,

My buddy and I are traveling from Austin to LA on his 1976 cb550 and my 1980 cx500 custom. Needless to say, we've had some crazy adventures and beautiful riding.

However, we arrived in Flagstaff, AZ last night and stayed here. In the morning when I tried to fire up my engine  I found I was only firing on one cylinder. We've been working on the bike all day in a friendly man's driveway but still haven't solved the problem. My fear is that there is a compression problem but I haven't been able to do a compression test yet because I need an adaptor for the compression gauge I was able to find at a nearby NAPA store.

I was wondering if anyone in the area has a little know-how or maybe a shop or garage where we might be able to stake out a space in the corner to work on the bike during the day tomorrow and hopefully continue our journey. We are 1500 miles from home but we've got tools, manuals, and some mechanical skills, we just need some time and space to fix the problem or at least diagnose it.

If anyone sees this and has the heart to help out a couple of stranded travelers from Texas I would be eternally grateful. Thanks guys.

-Cam

Tl;dr I'm stranded in flagstaff and hoping for someone to lend me a corner of their shop or garage to fix my 1980 cx500 custom

I've been in similar situation Cam and understand your need,I'm in PA. and that won't help so I'll bump this for you.I know it must be cold outside and a sohc4 member in Falgstaff,AZ. w/ a Garage would really help right about now.  :)

Hey Ty - sorry to hear.  I don't know of any members in the Flagstaff area.  Wish I could help somehow.

Yes, Matt was stranded in Lake Havasu, a part of his electronic ignition went bad.  Cycle X sent him the part and he is now home.  Check the Relay thread for the bikini pics!
