CB750 K4 Spring Seat issue (photo below)
« on: April 13, 2014, 10:40:29 pm »
I had my exhaust guides replaced with APE guides and now the i.d. of the spring seat is too small for the o.d. of the guides. What gives? Has this happened to anyone else. I tried freezing the seats and it didn't make it any easier. I then searched online about thermal expansion/contraction of rings. So I tried heating the spring seat. still no luck. I was thinking about moving to the unibit (step bit) and open up the i.d. of the spring seat.

has anyone had issues with this before?

Cheers

Dan

Wouldn't heat the ring expand the hole.   Warm the rings in a toaster oven and then try again.  If not open it up with a fine rat tail file

I would measure first and use lathe to make the hole big enough.

But maybe as step 0 contact APE or MRieck and ask them?

Good luck.

I ended up using a dremel tool and cutter open the i.d. a little bit. I took off as little as I could and maintained its concentricity. All buttoned up now!  :)
