Rear Drum Brake Panel Question
« on: April 13, 2014, 10:56:12 am »
I've installed new wheel bearings on my 550K1. I notice now that when the rear drum brake panel is put in position it seats on the new bearing and  can rock slightly (no axel in) from side to side. I didn't notice this when I took it off so maybe this is how it is supposed to be. The bearing is pressed in flush to the top of the housing.

Is the panel supposed to seat against the bearing?

It rocks, you just didn't notice before is all. Get the stuff mostly together and hold down hard on the brake pedal while you tighten down the rear axle

This will have a centering effect for the shoes, better rear brake contact that way. Use a helper if necessary, you don't need to go crazy tho

Thanks for the response, bj, and the tip about centering the shoes in the drum.
