Hmm. That one pipe should be interesting.

Might put dhall back in the exclusive #2 club?

The 5th pic is the backside of the #2 pipe. Alot of oil, and dirt baked on it and will take some elbow grease to clean it up,  but under all that mess lies a solid 341 pipe.

Spent a little time on the #2 341. Far cry from the beginning, cleaned up real good. Not done, but wanted to show how it was turning out ;D

Beautiful bike Dwight, I'm constantly amazed at what's still lurking in people's basements in the US! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Even though these 341's were filthy I could tell they were excellent pipes(even the #2 was solid) ;D  This was a low mileage, original K4 in this basement, but the main reason I couldn't walk away from it and what really sold me on the bike and it followed me home was the condition of the 341's. A nice set of these original pipes are getting harder and harder to find and can be worth some big $$ if your lucky enough to find a set.( especially the near extinct #2. I know first hand about it ::) I'll finish cleaning up #1,3, and 4 this weekend. It will be a little while yet before getting the K4 on the road so I'll just put these pipes up in a safe place until bike is ready. Hard to believe back in the day many pipes were being removed from CB750's and junked ??? How times have changed in 40 years ;)

That's true Dwight, the first thing I did after I bought my shiney new F0 was take the OEM pipe off and replace it with a black RC pipe. ($129 back then) That black pipe had much better ground clearance, (the F pipe would grab the ground in bends and threw me and my passenger off before I binned it) had a much nicer "note", and unleashed a few more horses.

The 341's were a disappointment after the 300's, they might have looked the same, but they sure didn't breathe like the 300's. It was surprising how much more power could be obtained just from doing a pipe and jet change, and the other problem with the OEM pipes was that they rusted out very early in the bikes life, and even then, were ridiculously expensive, and most guys wouldn't have wasted the money back then, knowing that they didn't last.

Nowadays of course we don't need to soup up our CB750's because there are so many later model bikes available (that usually cost less to buy used than a CB750) that are so much faster, handle better, stop better etc, so it's nice to put or CB750's back to original condition.

Just like all those years ago, HM341's are expensive to buy, which is why a lot of guys have to settle for an aftermarket pipe, which is probably a performance improvement, (not all aftermarket pipes improve performance, I've got a 4 into 2 pipe here which must have restrictors welded in, it's horrible) but of course, not original.

I recently scored a really nice set of HM341's from another member in Oz, and I'll use them on my K2 resto. They certainly won't be a performance improvement, but they do look nice, especially from the back of the bike, that view is what got me all excited about CB750's 40 years ago! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Geez, that's amazing, you can see how the end has twisted before it broke off, there must have been some pretty crusty corrosion in there Dwight! Cheers, Terry. ;D

There was a decent looking 341 pipe for sale in the swap meet at the Road America AHRMA races this weekend. I never thought to see if it was the elusive #2 pipe  :-\

The pipe at RA was for #3 & #4.... He wanted 300 -400 for each is what he told me... If the pipes are the same as the ones Hoodelly mentioned that is. The seller put them in the oem boxes yet they were used.

Just a little motivation booster for me to get my a$$ in gear on my K4.  A nice set of 341's tends to do that ;)

Lucky you, DHall.  I recently got my K4 Boss back on the road after a front end upgrade - new springs, tapered bearings, wheel bearings, ss spokes, polished hub and fork lowers.

I'm the worst when it comes to working on a project bike. Maybe it's because I've got 4 other bikes that I can ride ::) It took me about a year or so to get my 77 GL1000 on the road  And it looks like the 750K4 is going to be the same way. On well it's all good, but recently I took the m/cyl off and after 30 years the brake fluid has turn into a powder. Nice ;D

I was wondering where you were at with that bike Dwight. No worries...took me a year to get this 69 blue/green done. Now it is on the lift for swingarm bushings :) But that is OK as we have snow and ice right now. You have to ride when the weather is good and work on projects when it is not. Keep us up to date and Merry Christmas :)

Took caliper off, now a little air pressure to get piston out. Hope piston is still in good shape. Last inspection looks to be June of 1986. Only 28 years ago. The PO said he thought he had parked it about 30 years ago so he wasn't far off.

Careful with that air pressure. Wrap it in a towel so you don't get blow back in your eyes.

I had to use my air compressor to get the pistons out of my Goldwing calipers also. They were really stuck.

In the past I have had issues not getting it out with air. I could use the grease and zerk trick, but instead I just pumped it out with the master.
