Putting an early 750k tank on a '76 750k
« on: April 14, 2014, 05:42:26 PM »
I have a 1976 750K left side petcock and would like to put on a early 750K tank with petcock on right side. Would there be a clearance problem, It looks like it would fit and not hit the carbs.
thanks, Mark

Tank should direct swap without any clearance issues. The one thing I never cared for was that the petcock and carb rack idle speed adjustment screw will now be located on the same side next to each other. This makes idle speed adjustment a bit more difficult by having to reach around the petcock.

Only possible issue might be the location of holes drilled in the carb mount plate (for fuel line routing). K5 and 6 bikes have a hole drilled in the left side of the plate, nearest to #1 carb. IIRC, K4 and down bikes have holes (2) drilled in the plate between carbs 3/4,
and the holes are vertical to one another, and no hole drilled on the left. All due to the fact that the fuel valves are on opposite sides between models. Physical dimensions are the same I am fairly certain. Guessing it would work with some re routing of the fuel lines.

Edit: mis read post. going TO earlier right side tank should be no problem. Fuel line holes (2) are on right side of later carb racks as well.

I am using a later model tank on my k3, the opposite of your situation, and it swapped without problem. As I recall, the newer style uses a single outlet petcock rather than the earlier dual outlet, so you will need to reconfigure gas lines. I am running cr carbs, so my idle adjustment is remote and not a problem.

My 75K has older tank. No problemo. Just have to set up fuel lines to suit.

Thanks very much for the info, It seems there are more early tanks available. So If I come up with a good tank and right price I'll get it. I have a late tank with the badge bracket removed and holes welded.

thanks again for the info.
the knowledge and the willing to help on this forum is great.
thanks, Mark
