CB350F sudden stop
« on: April 17, 2014, 05:13:42 PM »
I recently did a top end on my bike.  I had a Honda dealer grind and check valves,  bore out cylinders, new rings and oversize pistons, also a new copper head gasket. New electronic ignition. Bike also had an oil leak. New parts, took my time and today finished putting bike back together.  The bike fired right up, no oil leaks and purred like a kitten. Best it ever ran. After running about five minutes, it very abruptly stopped.  The abrupt stop made me quite nervous.  I pulled the generator cover and turned the engine by hand.  I could turn the engine forward about 80% of one revolution and turned it backward about 80% of one revolution.  At that point I felt further force could result in serious damage.  I pulled the tappet cover.  Initial inspection of the cam and valves (top side) seemed fine.  I manually turned the engine, it moved freely without incident and no adverse noises. Placing the cam cover back on and tightening the screws, I again attempted to turn the engine over manually.  I was back to square one.  After about and 80% rotation, I again found severe resistance to turning the engine.  Once again removed the tappet cover, cam pressure off the valves an voila the engine moved freely.  Any ideas of what the problem could be?  Valves severely out of adjust, bent valve, problem with the cam.  Any questions, comments, or diagnosis about what my issues are is appreciated.  Thank you. :-\

I believe there is a certain sequence you must follow putting the valve cover back on a 350f. Do a search for a thread on it...

Since it happened while running the damage is done.  I think you need to pull the head and inspect for damage.  And YES new head gasket for starters
