and you don't have to have an 1800s pearl divers helmet to wear riding it either.

To me the K is better, the lines and bodywork all are perfect.

Hey, I get it. Most people associate the 69-76 750K as The iconic CB750. I originally bought my CB750K2 as my rebuild project and picked up a CB750K7 as a survivor/rat for that reason. I put so much into the K7 that it is now a decent looking bike but it is nowhere near stock anymore. Some may think of the K7-8 as ugly ducklings, too.

The K7-8 and F bikes have gained lots of traction in the past 5 years especially as members have accomplished great build results.

I guess I just wanted to interject that none of these models are inherent pieces of feces. ;)

Hey the thread jacking got done on page 1  ;D

Point being everytime I search craigslist for $500 cb750's no longer are they non running original (or at least stock frames) but half done cafe bobber chop that don't have airboxes half the frame, hacked up wiring that the owner realized they couldnt finish, or did finish and hated so decided to sell. And all i want is the "POS" they started with and HAD to make "better" (the point i was making)

I'm with Banker on this- for the first time, I don't really want to be known to be part of this forum. Opinions are fine, preference for stock is fine, but mocking a new buy who has the audacity to do something original (to this forum)? That's harsh, folks.

At least Terry, all mocking notwithstanding, had the balls to offer an alternative.

Y'all are better than that. #$%*ing act like it.

I have to say it. Looking at the Bike he was/ is going to tear apart breaks my heart. Its a nice Bike in its own right and I agree with Terry completely on this . Just because he 'can' doesn't mean he 'should'
Screw the 'its his own Bike he can do what he wants ' , he deserves to be called out on destroying something we all love. What the hell did he expect.
I think Noddy put on his Monacle, got on his Big wheeled Bicycle , adjusted his bow tie and rode off with a Harumph.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

OK, looks like I’m going to have to go against my own “I’m out until I actually start building something” comment to try and put a few facts into the story. It seems people are happy to make a load of assumptions without actually bothering to find out any real information…

fine looking motorcycles should be considered art, but only if they're ridden

I couldn’t agree more. My first bike, the one at the very start of this thread, is my only form of transport save for a shared car with my partner. If I’m going anywhere on my own, I take Isabel. I’ve put over a thousand Ks on her since I ‘finished’ (less than a year ago). To put this in perspective, I work from home, I live about 10km from the centre of town, and it takes roughly 200km to ride from one end of the island I live on, to the other. It’s not a big place, I don’t ride for 700miles at a stretch, and nor do I need to. We also get all kinds of weather, usually in the same day.

There is also nothing on Isabel that isn’t functional. There’s no brass doodads glued on for the sake of it. All the parts are just executed with a different aesthetic. As they will be with this new one. Someone has seen a word and gone “oh, I know what that means’” and haven’t actually bothered to look any further, or at any of the actual information given… like all good bigots…

6 pages of insults seems like more than a joke to me Dave.

It is. I can take a good ribbing as much as the next guy, though generally I feel piss-taking does have to have a modicum of good-nature in it… I’m also pretty sure ‘jokes’ need to be funny.

I like this old K1 chopper. No tacky non-functional add-ons, just a nice neat custom CB750 from back in the day.

Ok, you like a certain style that’s different from this one… I’m so happy for you. Wait! Is that a non-standard frame I see? Chopped? Custom seat? Increased rake? HERESY! BURN THE HERETIC! Good god, the hypocrisy of this post alone astounds me… I can only assume you were trying to make my point for me.

the new style is a fad that will go away

Just like all styles. That’s why they’re styles. Nothing stays ‘in style’ forever. Styles/fads/fashions go in cycles, they do in manufactured bikes just as they do in custom bikes. Some people like some styles, some people don’t. I can only assume by this post alone you’re actually a trained monkey who has been taught to type on a keyboard, but lacks any real understanding of the words he is using… Just type “oook” if you think I’m mistaken and I’ll swap you a mint condition CB750 for a banana.

I notice he has stopped commenting, I hope that isn't because you guys haven't chased him off.

Nope, not chased off at all. Encouraged would actually be more accurate… ‘on holidays’ would also work, alternatively ‘doing what I said I was going to do and not commenting until I had some progress to report’ could also fit the bill. Though the last one is probably less accurate now…

As much as I know I should feel ashamed for deriding Noddy's vision, I certainly won't be apologising any time soon

Well, that covers pretty much all we need to know about you there then doesn’t it? Damn right you should be ashamed. You spout some crap about your years of knowledge but lack the basic manners taught to school children.

I’ve seen many failed projects blah blah never to be seen again.

Clearly, this could be the only possible outcome. “I’ve seen it all before” cries every single old bugger so set in his ways that if we all actually thought like that we’d have never made it down from the trees. You haven’t seen it all Terence, and you sure as #$%* don’t know it all. Your own brain-atrophied little world-view isn’t the only one that matters. Christ, my 3 year old niece has grasped that better than you.

You may have noticed that in one of Noddy's last posts, he refused my offer to supply him with all the OEM parts he needed to actually turn his vision into reality, but offered to sell his bike to me, that tells me that he's probably lost interest and is moving on.

Does it Terry? Is that all it tells you? What it ACTUALLY means, if you even care to know, is that I ACTUALLY umm’ed and ahh’ed over your offer. As I said VERY early on in the thread, I was after something that had already been molested. You obviously thought this one was not beyond saving (from one very small picture on the internet, because clearly you are omniscient), and even through your deplorable manners, I considered it. I just offered it back to you in the same manner you presented your ‘offers’. And in an actual functional way. How was your offer supposed to work anyway? Some #$%*wit from the internet says “I’ll give you all this stuff” for your bike, do I just ship it over to you and hope you send the stuff back? Or do you send the stuff and hope I send the bike back? It was dumb offer from the get go, and you know it.

And I can assure you, I’m in no way ‘moving on’.

he'd tire of once he realised that the end result of his labours doesn't quite match his vision.

Wow Terry, you just keep getting more wrong. You have no idea how much I’m going to enjoy spending the next year or so showing you up for the complete wanker you are, not that you really need my help, you pretty much do it yourself every time you post in this thread. And that’s just an added bonus to the joy I’m going to get from doing EXACTLY what I set out to do.

Yeah, I understand the "It's mine so I can do what I like with it" arguments

You clearly don’t.

I'm with Banker on this- for the first time, I don't really want to be known to be part of this forum.
Y'all are better than that. #$%*ing act like it.

Thank you for the voice of reason and sanity injected here Dusty. I couldn’t have said it better myself. A bigger bunch of childish behaviour I think I’ve yet to see. Anywhere. And that includes when I was in primary school. The next thing you’ll hear from me will be with some kind of update. The kids around here can carry on with whatever makes them happy (kicking sand in others kid's faces and pushing them off swings, I can only assume), I’ve got work to do, skills to learn, and a motorbike to destr… err… build. ;)

Hi Andrew and "stone the bloody crows",  I'll bet you were not expecting such an avalanche of spleen!. Must say I am surprised by the amount of naysaying purist bile that your initial thread has generated. Could've understood it all if you were chopping up a nice sandcast, early diecast or even a K1 at a stretch.
So hopefully to keep your spirits up.....I actually saw your 350 Twin Steampunk bike at last years "Toy Run" at Salamanca and even spoke to you about it for a while. In my opinion it was the most interesting bike out of the 6000 odd bikes that were there. The fact that it was the only bike that had people milling about it in amazement and really admiring it made a bit of a mockery out of a lot of the modern plastic clad abominations or the usual array of shiny Harleys that remind one of Christmas trees was a flamin credit to you.
I remember you saying that you were keen to tackle a 750 next and good on ya for getting one.
Got an old 750 #$%*ta myself....K2 frame with a clapped out K7 motor in it that I'm hoping to turn into something that suits me this winter. Not going steampunk with mine. Since I have a PHD in LSD thought I might go for more of an
" Abstract/Psychotic" style.....Hey I might even coin a new style here.
Anyway, hope you keep posting about your new creation. Stick it up em mate!, f#$k em!, let em wince and cringe.
Cheers

That's ok, you don't have to be.
In my mind there have been some pretty nice customs made from these bikes in the past. You have only got to look at the Wrenchmonkey's  Gorilla Punch to see. I'd swap my really nice low mileage KO for that one in an instant.

In the past and overseas where the prices of these bikes were a lot less, I have watched the prices in the US go through the roof in the last couple of years, Noddy's bike isn't a #$%*ter, I have all the parts to make that stock except the pipes {can get them though}, with the pipes that bike could be turned into a 10 grand bike easily...

This must all be part "purist" vs "trend builder" OR, there's a sub-text here that is uniquely Australian with cultural rifts surfacing? In either case, I don't get the sustained abuse...

Yeah, I've seen the volume of bikes go under the saw, some looking pretty good at the onset, and then you wonder "why?", but in the end, isn't the gamut of diversity what makes the machines so attractive? There's something really cool about restored bikes, but there's also something cool about giving a 40 year old bike a new lease on life. If you don't care for the style, Okay, that's your prerogative. But really, the abuse over his choices of style and aesthetic? It's unwarranted and some of the comments are over the top. I never saw where he asked for opinions, only announced his goals. Let's stay focused on offering help when asked, and restricting our design choices to our own, loved projects.

I think some comments were "funny" and good-natured, but others downright inappropriate, especially given Noddy's latest response. Please, if you aren't interested in what he plans to build, move on. There's other Open Forum threads where we can share our "views" that don't belong on a build thread. Too much talent is being wasted on comments as opposed to knowledgeable input.

Go to his sig line, and click the link to his build thread in Honda Twins, and THEN tell me he hasn't shown any talent yet.

I'm amazed at what he did.

Maybe he will rebuild the bike just by talking about it. So far thats the only skill he showed.

Or maybe he's had the bike less than two weeks and is still in the design phase.  We've seen that before... build threads that wait months between posts.  You could make the same argument of SohRon's posts about building his 550, or HedNut's Bio-Hazard bike.

Like BankerDanny and DustyRags,I am embarrassed by some of the responses in this thread.  Although I don't have an astronomical post count, I have been a member of this forum for several years.  I have always felt welcome in this forum, and while some people in other build threads have chimed in with opposing viewpoints, I have never seen such vitriol as has been spewed upon these pages.

To believe thoroughly that this project is unlikely to be successful for whatever reason, or that the source bike is of sufficient quality to merit restoration over heavy modification to the point of offering materials and equipment in trade is perfectly acceptable, but to vehemently tear down a new member who willingly came to us to share his love for the SOHC4 (regardless of incarnation) is completely unconscionable.  8 pages of posts telling Noddy his project is unrealistic and his idea for a bike is stupid and pointless is puerile at best, and shameful at minimum.

How can we claim to be one of the best forums on the internet, open and helpful, and grow our membership if this is how we treat a newcomer with ideas that differ from our own?  If you disagree, voice your opinion and be done, but there is no need to be disrespectful, rude, or even downright hostile.

Noddy, I commend you for speaking up to defend yourself.  I, for one, look forward to your progress for the sake of seeing you challenge yourself and learning something new.  Showing up the wankers is irrelevant.  Win, lose, or draw, you're trying something you've never done before and have the courage to continue in the face of adversity, and that is something we can all aspire to do.

OK, looks like I’m going to have to go against my own “I’m out until I actually start building something” comment to try and put a few facts into the story. It seems people are happy to make a load of assumptions without actually bothering to find out any real information…

Pretty good retort Noddy. It got a little long on the Terry bashing front but I guess he's been the lead bully in the crowd of naysayers. This thread has certainly become a prime example of how relatively anonymous people act. Bet it would be a completely different conversation if held at the local cafe.
