Ooher, that's a nice ashtray Dave, I think I've got Ashtray Envy! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Dave,

really ! Much as I admire your collection of brass artifacts, we really ought to leave the stage clear for the real purpose of this thread. A build of some sort if I recall correctly.

Thanks Retro for the clarification.

I'm a bit jaded waiting on project developments here, so I'll blow ballast and sink to my slumbers.

Please carry on regardless, you who have the day to play with, I'll rejoin you scurvy crew on the morrow.

Well if I can't do too much building, I CAN do some shopping...

So, a nice vintage Italian 19x2.15 40H from a Ducati that I picked up from a bloke in Melbourne for $30...

PLUS a 16x3.00 Harley rear:

EQUALS vintage whitewall goodness:

Add in the obligatory new bearings and brakes:

And get the lot ready to send out for powdercoating:

I've also got a spoke sitting in a bucket of vinegar out the back that's got the chrome flaking off already (gotta love cheap spokes) ready to try a rust-patina'ed effect. Will be interesting to see how that turns out...

Good to see some movement Noddy, well done. The "chrome" on your spokes is actually zinc plating (chrome is unaffected by vinegar) and while vinegar is a nice mild acid, you could strip the zinc completely in a few minutes with phosphoric acid, which is also excellent for removing rust from inside petrol tanks etc.

If you're still thinking about copper plating the spokes, take the stripped spokes to any chrome plater, copper is the first step in proper chrome plating (copper/nickel/chrome) and they'd do them for you cheap, then you could decide whether you just want them to go dull (tarnished) while the integrity of the spoke is still protected, or polish them for that "Steampunk" look. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Good to see some movement Noddy, well done. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks mate, but who are you and what have you done with Terry? ;) Heh, just kidding, it's actually nice to have some positivity here. Yep, I'm all over the copper-plating process from the last build, but I've done a test spoke with a light surface rust and I think it will work fine without affecting the integrity of the spoke once it's sealed. The vinegar works fine, and it's cheap and easy, so I'll just plod away with it, I'm in no hurry.

..so making old things look even older is what?

You've actually got me there...

.....as a designer you shoukd know: form follows function.

Sure, and I've defined it's function, which this design follows.

Those rims are beautiful....too nice for powder.

Actually the chrome on the front rim is already shot. Sure I could re-chrome it, but then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder isn't it (I'm pretty sure we've covered that extensively already)? The rear is just a steel Harley rim, nothing special there.

Everything seems to line up ok, and a few blokes here have done it apparently:

According to Buzz, the EBC rotor does not fit the K models 69-76.
