It's a bit of a logo for the bikes I'm building from here on. I will all become clear in the fullness of time... probably...

I've got a few more bits done, nothing major, but I've got the urn... I mean oil tank... pretty much together. I just have to solder it all up, we'll see how that goes when the flux arrives...

How did you get the brass finish on the gauge outers & the starter cover + any other bits and pieces that aren't pure brass? Brass electroplating?

To me, this might be one of the most anticipated projects here to see in a finished state.  I have very much enjoyed the progress and how true to it's mission statement it has been.  The attention to detail, sir, is admirable.  Love this bike.

This whole build is full of win, IMHO.

Noddy are you concerned at all about cooking those leather hanger straps on the oil tank from the heat of operation?

Also, what do you have planned for a front fender or fork brace?

From the looks of those control levers, you will be running internal cables through the handlebars?

Thanks mate. I wasn't concerned about the leather straps as I hadn't thought about to be honest! But given a lot of welding gloves etc are leather I'm going to assume they should be OK. They're pretty thick straps, ex-military, so I'm guessing they should be pretty hardy. Will have to keep and eye on that one, could be slightly embarrassing fanging down the highway with the oil tank dragging behind me... There will be another mounting point (steel) to stop it flopping about so if one of the straps does fail it should still be OK to get me home. I was also considering hiding steel straps under the leather so it's a bit more sturdy but still has the look of the leather. Still fiddling with the mounting really.

Front fender I'll be making up as I go along. Tossing up whether to try and shape my own out of copper sheet, or try to find a blank or old one from another bike that I can modify and copper-plate.

Yep, internal cables for the brake and clutch, though again, I haven't exactly thought that one entirely through, but shouldn't present any major issues that I can think of.

 I have a suggestion, the headlite mounts look a tad modern...
 Seeing as  your light has the original type mount on at least one side.. hope its on both... if you look up sa 1927 Harle JD headlight mounts you will see one of the styles they use.
 Now if you were to obtain a 77/78 750 K Honda triple trees, you will notice two holes in the lower tree near the fork tubes... you could make the original type headlite mounts for that headlight and fit them into the tree without any mods to the trees.i think it would compliment the rest of the package..

Yeah, I am going for the bulk of it being an 'old' vibe, but with touches of new (SS allen head bolts in the engine and LED lights for example) and I like the juxtaposition, so I think it'll work with the rest of the bike when it's done. I'm not trying to be period-correct or anything, it's more of a vibe. It's Mabo. It's the constitution...

It's looking great, Noddy, but how old are those tires now?  You bought them for this project, right?  You may well need to replace them before they ever roll on pavement.  Not a criticism, but a safety concern.

You know, now that I see it assembled a bit, I really like how the light wood grain stripes in the instrument backs goes with the copper color from the other parts, you've got a nice interplay of colors going on.

Hey mate, yeah, they must be about 18 month old now. They've been inside the whole time, no real massive changes in temperature etc, so I reckon they'll be fine for a another few years yet. I will keep my eye on them though, thanks.

Cheers, the stripes will be cropping up on a few other parts, so it should all work together when (if) it's done...

....soooo, speaking of stripes... while the house is being built we're living with the in-laws, and wouldn't you know it, the father-in-law has a bit of wood-working gear! So I'm taking the opportunity to get a few wooden bits done while we're here (stuck with crappy iPhone photography though):

Heh, I'm enjoying the making of them too, something really quite nice about working with wood.
