The beginning of the K8 refurbish.
« on: April 20, 2014, 02:57:51 PM »
Well, I finally found some time, today, to begin working on the K8. I'm calling this a refurbish since I do not intend to tear the whole bike down and start over. I am trying to limit this to a "clean-up", "straighten-up" type of project.

I've assembled most of the materials I think I'm going to need, new tires, a set of used, correct exhausts, new gaskets, seals, cables, etc. The carbs were recently rebuilt by our own SOHC Digger. The more I remove, the more I'm realizing needs to be done, isn't that always the case. Anyway, here are some pics taken today, I decided to start out by dry-fitting the exhausts. I've cleaned and polished the left side exhaust and dry-fitted to see how she looks.

I also fitted the right exhaust, although it will need to be removed to finish polishing.

I suspect this is going to take longer than anticipated, due to my work schedule, but it should be fun, and hopefully she will turn out beautiful.

Well, after several detours, stops and starts, the K8 refurbish is winding down. The mechanicals have been all been repaired, buttoned up and she purrs very nicely. Today, I finally decided that I have been putting the polishing off for too long, so I dug right in.... I made some decent progress and she really is starting to look good, again. Not near perfect, but very respectable for a 39 year old lady. By Spring, she will be back on the road and I will be remembering what I missed.

A couple of today's pics.

A few pieces still out at the painter, soon to be back.

I made some good progress, today. All cleaned, scrubbed, shined and polished. Mechanicals all done, new tires on, tuned, new oil, filters, chain cleaned and lubed. Just need to get the side covers back from the painter and it will be finished...

She's peeing some gas through the overflow, must have a stuck float. Need to look into that this weekend.

Nice job _dog....

Thanks Stev-o. And thanks for the heads up on the tank, the thing is near perfect. A few things left to do as I stand back and look. Get a few parts powder coated, bleed the front brakes, again. Otherwise, I intend to ride it alot.

Now, back to the 900F project.

Your bike looks great! I really like how the paint can look different colour depending on the light, lots of depth.

Stock I know, but that cobalt stripe really helps to make the color pop.
